String of Horses

Stopping here on the way to Edinburgh from London just had a really nice meal. It's a proper pub full of locals which is nice. But the restaurant is a cut above your usual pub grub. My partner had the pie and I had hotpot neither disappointed and the good fresh well cooked veg made it great.

From the warmest welcome by Sam to a clean cosy room to wonderful food, we had a lovely one night stay here, will definitely come back next time we are in this area. The hotel was lovely and clean and the bed really comfortable which meant a great nights sleep followed by a good breakfast we were sad to leave.

Unique old-fashioned atmosphere, great beer, dinner, room a tad small but comfy, very warm personnel, great base to visit Carlisle, Hadrian’s wall and Lake district

Absolutely fine ..as advertised..very comfortable..quiet location...good food and drinks selection..no complaints...oh and staff ( Sam and Chloe) very professional and friendly..ps you will need to have your headlights on if you arrive in the dark..

Overall the hotel was good and clean with the room comfortable with plenty of parking space. There was no food available on the Sunday night, however there were alternative options available with delivery's from pizza and other food outlets from the nearby town. If your relying on WIFI for work emails or calls don't, very much a hit and miss. The only real negative point was the shower not very good with little or limited heat and power. I may of been unlucky and other rooms may have been a lot better.

We stopped for one night at String of Horses, just outside Carlisle, on our way to Scotland and were sorry it was was for only one night. This 17th century pub is really gorgeous with lounges furnished with period furniture and interesting pictures . Our modernised standard room was small but light, well designed to include storage space and with a really comfortable bed. The modern bathroom had an excellent shower huge bath sheets and luxury toiletries. Breakfast included was cooked to order with a really good selection. Our only disappointment was that because we had not booked direct, we only discovered there was no dinner served on a Sunday when we arrived. But Sam, the lovely receptionist booked us into The Queen where we had a really excellent meal. Highly recommended

We enjoyed the atmosphere of an old fashioned village pub which we used as a base for travelling around the area and which we enjoyed coming back to for a drink in the wonderful atmospheric bar, followed by excellent cuisine served by superb staff

Beautiful and clean rooms we had 3 all very clean and the big room for 3 people had an amazing bathroom, staff very friendly,lovely area to play pool/snooker and cozy bar my only issue was how expensive the food is in the evening - will go back if ever in area again

We stayed overnight as part of cycling the Hadrian's Wall cycle route (ncr 72). The whole hotel is beautiful and very clean and fresh, and the staff are warm and helpful. They provided an excellent 'everything-you-could-want' breakfast, beautifully served in their restaurant.
