Champagne André Bergère

Located incredibly on the Avenue de Champagne this hotel was perfect for a one night stopover as we worked our way down to the South of France. Lovely staff, great parking and brilliant breakfast. Would recommend for a quick Champagne stopover as you can easily spend the afternoon strolling down the Avenue stopping at the various Champagne houses. Dog and baby friendly, they made us very welcome.

A great 2 night stay, I rarely write a review but on this occasion I felt I had to do so, praise where praise is due. A spotlessly clean room, very friendly staff, a brilliant location with excellent secure parking and excellent champagne. Wish we could have stayed longer.

This champagne house has a great spot on the Avenue de Champagne just along the road from Pol Roger, Jouet Perrier and Moet. We had a very large apartment for four. It was an interesting set up with a kitchen dinner, sitting area where the sofa bed was set up for the kids. There was also a WC. Then along the corridor was another bedroom and the bathroom. There was little privacy unless you went outside to shut the shutters and where the kids were sleeping there was no shutters to keep the light out. The bathroom shower was large but mouldy and had an old fashioned mixer where you mix the hot and cold water separately and annoyingly my youngest managed to burn her hand, but otherwise the shower was powerful. Breakfast was very bog standard, which pretty much sums up the whole experience. Staff are friendly enough but it’s like they are just dealing with the admin of checking you in and have no interest in you or your visit or even their own champagne house. In fact I feel that this champagne house is missing a trick by not providing a bottle or even a glass of the house champagne to welcome guests and maybe even encourage us to purchase the champagne. We went to the Bergere boutique and no information on the house or its history is available and so we didn’t feel enticed to do its tour. We went to Moet instead who offered us a free tasting the moment they spotted us debating which vintage to buy. Clever them, we left with both! The same indifference was felt at the sister restaurant La Cave de L’Avenue. But the food was good at least. Overall the whole Bergere experience was not what we were hoping for to round off an otherwise amazing tour of the country.

Somewhat old fashioned but sweet and convenient place to stay. Friendly concierge. Very calm and efficient breakfast with hot egg-based dishes brought quickly upon request. Note it is not a busy hotel so the concierge desk is sometimes vacant, and closed at night - we found that inconvenient when our room had no hot water. Note: the car charging is extremely slow, so don’t rely on it!

Spacious room overlooking the garden and side street, as the weather was very hot we had the air conditioning on at night so heard no noise from the side street. Room had a separate toilet room as well as a shower room with a double sink, heated towel rail and clothes stand. The room had a sofa and many chairs. The Wi-Fi was strong in the bedroom. The breakfast had the choice of egg dishes, fruit, fruit juices, cereal, choice of many types of fresh breads, meats cheeses, jams and a coffee machine that also supplied hot water for tea bags etc. There was always someone around to help, and English was spoken by them, check in was quick as we had agreed a time that we would arrive. As this was our Silver Wedding Anniversary we were glad we selected this hotel, for the service, private parking in the grounds and being on Avenue de Champagne it was so nice to just step out onto this famous street. We would stay here again if we came to Epernay. If arriving by car please be aware that access to the hotel for parking is via Rue Croix du Bussy that is a one way street, so approach from the south on this street.

We stayed in Epernay on our route south. The hotel was easy to find, although the car park was a little more tricky (it’s address is actually 3 Rue Croix de Bussy). Car park is secure as the gates get locked at night. Comfortable bed, very dog friendly, he was even able to sit with us at breakfast, which was delicious. We enjoyed a glass of their delicious champagne in the sun before heading out. We ate in their bistro which is further down the street, food was lovely. The staff were all really friendly.

Like the rest of the Avenue de Champagne it's a place of two "times" late morning through to early evening it is very lively with lots of people sat around tasting champagne. Outside those hours it's very quiet. Great for a Hotel. Spacious rooms in a lovely building. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice and fresh everything as you get used to in France. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good location for visiting the Grand Houses and their Champagne is very nice.

Fantastic location on the Avenue; beautiful champagne house and the rooms were spacious and well presented. Breakfast was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make our stay and help us when we needed it. Would thoroughly recommend and would definitely stay again.

I rated this hotel 5 stars in August 2018. We have stayed many times at the main Champagne Andre Bergere site and were expecting to stay there again... but I hadn't noticed the word "Bis" on the end of my booking... We arrived in Epernay around 2.30pm having been on the road since 3.45am - we were tired, hot and looking forward to a shower and a wander around the town. On arrival, our host explained we had arrived at the wrong place. We were told we needed to move our car and go to "No 5 Ave de Champagne" to find our accommodation. This we did, but No5 had no "Andre Bergere" branding - it was called "La Cave de l'Avenue" and the door was firmly locked. We were completely confused. Was it a scam? On wandering around the corner, we found a building which had the Andre Bergere Bis name on it and rang the bell... No answer. I phoned the number on our booking and the lady informed me we couldn't get into the property until 6pm. We couldn't even put the car into the car park which meant one of us couldn't taste any champagne all afternoon as had to drive later. We were really fed up, tired and hot. At 6 we returned to the door - still locked - and rang the bell again and again. At 6.10 I rang the number on my booking again and ten minutes later someone appeared to let us in. He was obviously confused as to why I was upset. The room was beautifully presented, very comfortable and modern. Air conditioning was effective and welcome. Secure parking was available (limited spaces). Breakfast was good although nobody bothered to explain to us that some cooked options were available (we saw other guests receiving omelettes etc). I object to the fact that I had clearly stated we would be arriving at 2.30pm yet nobody contacted me to say this would be a problem. The check in process is appalling. Why couldn't they have given us out a card (picture attached) with the branding of the new place on it so that customers knew where to go? Apparently we should have gone to the hotel at 6pm rather than hanging around the gate as reception was open, but we had no idea this was our accommodation! We won't return. 6pm is much too late for access to rooms for tired travellers.
