if you are looking for a really nice place to stay in Funchal, then this is a staggeringly good hotel. The staff are amazingly nice and helpful, the food is excellent and chef creates lovely menus for each day and then there is the gardens and the tortoise (!) - utterly amazing. Far exceeded our expectations.

This is a truly exception hotel - everything from the rooms, to the gardens, to the staff is simply perfection. We were lucky to stay in beautiful late summer weather and enjoyed all the hotel had to offer - glorious garden, seasonal food and a beautiful swimming pool. Thank you so much for making us so welcome

Fantastic place to stay where the staff are so helpful and friendly but at the same time unobtrusive. Great pool. Comfortable rooms. Beautiful comfortable areas to relax ( inside and outside) including a library. Very clean Exceptional garden Good food All good! There is a regular shuttle service to Funchal.

Wow, what an incredible hotel! From the moment we arrived we felt right at home, or rather at the beautiful country estate of a delightful friend. Every member of staff went out of their way to be warm, friendly, and helpful. Our four-year old was treated like visiting royalty! The botanical gardens which surround you are truly outstanding (better than the main ones in Funchal). Meals are superb — breakfast on the sunny terrace definitely a highlight of our trip! Thank you to the entire team at Jardins do Lago and see you again soon.

A beautiful hotel with a pleasant atmosphere. great service, fantastic staff. a beatiful garden full of the most incredible tropical plants and flowers. excellent breakfasts in the garden and also the dinner was at highest level. The hotel was close to the center of the cities

There aren't enough superlatives for this beautiful hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel part of the family. The food was amazing, the staff so attentive and friendly, and the room was so large and comfortable, with a lovely balcony. The facilities were excellent, and we really could not find fault at all. My husband had a special birthday, and was made a fuss of at breakfast, and for the rest of the day. Thank you so much everyone.

This was a perfect hotel for a restful break from a busy life. The amenities are all as described in their brochure but it's what is NOT described that makes the difference between this hotel and its rivals. That was the service - from pre-trip emails to a really warm welcome, friendliness and helpfulness throughout our stay, concierge advice, arranging extra courtesy rides to & from downtown Funchal. All staff members including the cleaners, waiters and receptionists made us feel special.

Just returned from 2 weeks at this wonderful hotel it was our seventh visit we just can’t keep away we’ve stayed at some of the best hotels in the world and this is certainly the best it’s got everything wonderful staff that make you feel special magnificent gardens and lovely food the rooms are very spacious and comfortable with large balconies and comfy chairs and last but not least Colombo the tortoise he’s just like an old friend even now we’re planning our next visit Thanks to everyone

We stayed 6 nights in a junior suite in the old manor house having previously stayed in a room in the new building back in 2023. We didn't leave a review then as we couldn't think of anything to add to all the 5 star reviews but we this time we did want to say how marvellous it all was. Each and every member of staff go that extra mile for you with none of the fawning that can sometimes be found at top notch hotels. They truly care about what they do and know what you want even before you know yourself. Facilities are unbeatable from the breakfasts with more choices than you could think of to first class dinners in the gracious surroundings of Beresford's Restaurant. We felt our room was worth the extra thanks to the extra space, large bathroom with bath and (powerful) separate shower along with a balcony with view of the amazing gardens. And of course there was Colombo to put a smile on everyone's face!
