We have stayed at the Astoria for many years and to have many more.It is a very freindly family run hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is excellent just two minutes walk from the village centre where there are shops, bars and restraunts. The beach at Alykes is probably the best on the island

Arrived on 30.09.23 for 10 nights not knowing what to expect. Have stayed in Alykes a few times as we love the place and chose the Astoria due to fantastic location on the beach. We were allocated room 301 which had uninterrupted sea views and was large and clean. We hadn't requested sea view so we were made up. Balcony was large and it was so nice looking out over the beautiful blue sea. We looked inside a room opposite and would have been happy there as well with views to the salt flats and mountains. You could see the village which was lit up at night. Breakfast was OK. Waiting staff very attentive and we would finish off with a coffee on the terrace listening to the waves on the small beach. The family that own the hotel were super informative and friendly. I personally would not change anything about the building. It has real charm and character. Everywhere was clean and tidy. Big shout out to Celtic John and his lovely wife Anne who were staying for a month and have already booked for next year. We would definitely return to the Astoria in a heart beat. Thanks The Sea viewers (Jon & Bev)

Unfortunately this Hotel was a massive disappointment. We were expecting basic but our room was dirty, uncomfortable and a bit depressing! This place needs a it of refurbishment desperately. Cellotape was used in the toilets instead of a lock for example! We also encountered rudeness from one of the owners, the other owner was very lovely though. Great location but really horrid rooms

Perfect location. Hotel is directly onto a very clean sandy beach with free sunbeds and umbrellas. Very central to all bars and restaurants (only 2 min walk) We were on a bed and breakfast basis which was not brilliant!! Not much choice and no variation. But restaurant staff excellent. Very friendly and attentive. Which is more than I can say for the owner who never smiled once and was very brusque when asked a question. Rooms very clean and sheets changed daily. Maid was excellent couldn't do enough for us. All in all not a bad little hotel apart from the owner.

We have stayed at this hotel many times and it's in a great location right on the beach. The owners/staff are very friendly & work really hard. The restaurant food is lovely and is open to non guests too.

Hotel excellently located to the town, bars, restaurants and of course the beach, but very dated needs a lot of modernisation. Also you should be able to have the option of booking bed only as breakfast is at best average, I ate breakfast elsewhere everyday Cleaners are in everyday but towels don't get changed very often etc Would I stay again mmmm possibly as room was clean and staff friendly and maybe it was the time of year we were there I don't know but it was Like an old people.home we are 56 and we must of brought the average age right down lol also a bit steep to have to pay €10 per day for AC and you have to pay cash !!! But all in all I only use my hotel to sleep in and get changed 😄

The Astoria is a traditional Greek beachfront and I really do mean beachfront, hotel . 4 steps transport you from the leafy shaded terrace to a beach protected from waves by a jetty built out into the Ionian Sea. At the end of a hard days beach going Harry is more than happy, with a great sense of humour, to serve a few cold beveages on the same terrace. The hotel, bar, restaurant, attached snack bar and supermarket are family run by a Greco-Canadian family and boy do they know how to make guests feel welcome. Unlike other reviews we did not experience any rudeness or condenesceing remarks, possibly the British response to other nationalties intonation. We booked a package via Jet2 and even for a peak week in August the price was very good, The hotel has been modenised in part but, like most comparable hotels from the 80's, still possesses its traditional Greek ambiance but when booking ask for a sea view as the sunrise is spectaular and is on par with many Carribean vistas. When we say sea view it isn't a ***** of blue sandwiched between buildings but the WHOLE panoramic view We stayed B&B and the breakfast was varied and catered for all tastes and ages. We ate at the resturant a couple of times in the evening and the food was delicious and superbly prepared. The room and hotel were clean but obvioulsy if you had the balcony doors open dust would gather. Linen and towels were changed regularly or upon request and Maria and her team we only to eager to attend to any request from guests. We found even in 35 degree daytime temperaturs air conditioning was not needed but available, like any similar hotels in the Greek islands, at extra cost Safety deposit boxes are also available for a charge.. Location is great it is very quiet and with the sea so close who needs a swimming pool. Alykes town is small and quiet mainly occupied by eateries, gift/beach shops and supermarkets. Recommended eateries are the grill at the Asteria where the wild boar is stupendous, and for real value for money Pitta Break just around the corner on the main street from the Asteria. Whispers bar for cocktails Definitely recommend the Astoria for a stay and you wont be disppointed with Alykes town To address some of the negative comments the hotel is pretty much fully booked for next year with returning customers and its worth noting that the majority of clients during our stay weren't British, However we did meet another couple and their children from UK who have stayed at the Astoria for 22 of the past 26 years so it obviously has something going for it. In fact we will be joining them for a rturn visit in August 2024

We have been to Alykes many times over the years but this was our first time at the Astoria. The positives: the staff at this family run hotel are friendly and helpful, the location is very good and beakfast was good, we enjoyed the pancakes with fresh fruit, Greek yogurt with honey and there was always either scrambled, boiled or poached eggs. There was lots of variety but not for those thay want a full English. The bad points: the hotel is very shabby and really needs a complete refurbishment. We were in room 203 and the bathroom was very cramped and falling apart. The beds were very uncomfortable and were as hard as iron. I have osteoarthritis and the hard bed made my symptoms worse. We won't return to this hotel but we will be back to Alykes as we can't keep away.

This Hotel needs a big colosal clean. Receptionists are quite friendly, the breakfast waiters are unexpectedly rude, the location of this hotel is quite well placed, but there is unfortunately a minute beach space, I do not recommend this hotel. Not coming back.🤦‍♀️
