Since many of the 2010 Winter Olympics events were held at Whistler, everyone in the world now is wise to the fact that this mountain resort town is the site of some incredible, world-class terrain. It offers a full spectrum of winter sports, including some you've never heard of (ice sailing, anyone?), but its specialty is alpine skiing. The official name of the ski resort is Whistler Blackcomb because it actually encompasses two mountains, with the new Peak 2 Peak Gondola providing transit between the two summits. If you combine both mountains' skiable areas, this ski resort is by far the largest in North America. It operates 38 lifts as of 2010. In the summer, this region is known for great mountain biking, fishing, and hiking.
