Known for its pristine beaches and tiny, tranquil islands, serene
Fort Myers
is located in the Gulf Coast region of Southwest Florida. Sanibel and Captiva islands are probably the most name-recognizable destinations, though Bonita Springs, Estero, and Boca Grande are also grouped within the destination. Shell collecting, wildlife watching, and kayaking are a few of the main pastimes; dolphins and manatees are the local celebrities; and the 190-mile Great Calusa Blueway paddling trail is where people come to show off their watercraft. It's a far cry from the yachts and thong bikinis of Miami, or the giant water parks of Orlando, but therein lies the charm.
