Find Cheap Deals to New York City
There are five boroughs to
New York Cityand though some would say Manhattan's the only one that matters, there's plenty to prove otherwise. The Bronx is the home of Yankee Stadium and the Bronx Zoo. Interesting backstory: The Bronx is so called because in the 1600s a Swedish man named Jonas Bronck was the major landholder. When New York was just a young, up-and-coming city, people would refer to the outlying area as "Bronck's Land," which eventually got truncated to its existing derivation, "Bronx." When out-of-towners think of Brooklyn, their main association is the Brooklyn Bridge, but people who know New York call out its great arts districts (one of the best is DUMBO, short for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass), ethnic eateries including Grimaldi's Pizzeria (some say it's the best pizza in the boroughs), and Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park. Queens is home to JFK Airport, Flushing Meadows (where the US Open of Tennis is played), and the location of the 1964 World's Fair. Staten Island is primarily residential now; the famous Staten Island Ferry makes it a convenient commute for people working in Manhattan. Staten Island's also home to New York City's only living history enclave: Nearly 30 buildings in Historic Richmond towns have been preserved to look as they did in the 1600s, with costumed characters who "bring the past to life" by improvising the day-to-day lives of 17th-century villagers.
