Beautiful beaches and its easy accessibilty are two of the main reasons people flock to
Virginia Beach. Surfing is very popular; though the waves aren't as exciting as on the Pacific Coast, they're also not as daunting. That makes it a good place for beginners to learn. Other beachfront activities include fishing, kayaking, wave-running, and the new craze, stand-up paddle-boarding. The three-mile boardwalk takes you past all kinds of beach activity; just step off and throw down your beach towel wherever the action looks good. Whether on the beach or inland, the area's golf courses are a major draw. Save the Virginia Aquarium as a rainy-day fallback. And on the offbeat tip, several people recommend the Edgar Cayce A.R.E. Library. Cayce was a self-styled but famous psychic who lived in Virginia Beach; his former home now contains one of the world's largest collections of metaphysical, New Age, spiritual, and alternative medicine literature.
