Can you recommend hotels in Chongqing with the best views for photography?

Author's Profile Picture

Chongqing, often called the "Mountain City," is famous for its dramatic topography, where skyscrapers perch on hillsides and rivers carve through the landscape. The confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, coupled with its vibrant night lights, creates a photographer's paradise.

Hotels situated high above the city or along the riverbanks offer prime spots to capture these breathtaking scenes. When choosing a hotel for photography, consider not just the view from your room, but also from common areas like executive lounges, restaurants, and even infinity pools.

📸 Hotel Details and Photography Tips

Here are hotels in Chongqing that stand out for their photographic potential:

🌟 Niccolo Chongqing

  • Location: Situated on the upper floors of Chongqing IFS Tower T3 in Jiangbeizui, this hotel offers a panoramic perspective of the city. While technically across the Jialing River from Yuzhong District, its vantage point provides spectacular views of Yuzhong, including the iconic Raffles City and the confluence.
  • Key Views: Expect sweeping 270-degree views of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, the sprawling Yuzhong peninsula, and the glittering cityscape. The infinity pool on the 62nd floor is a legendary spot for sunset and night shots.
  • Photography Tips:
    • Best Time: Golden hour (just before sunset) for warm light on the city, and blue hour (just after sunset) for the deep blue sky contrasting with city lights. Night photography here is exceptional.
    • Angles: Capture wide-angle shots of the twin rivers converging, the architectural marvel of Raffles City, and the dense urban sprawl. Don't miss the reflection shots from the infinity pool.
    • Gear: A wide-angle lens is essential for panoramic shots. A tripod will be invaluable for night photography to ensure sharp, low-noise images.

This hotel truly exceeded my expectations! The room was exceptionally clean, and the bedding was so soft and comfortable, I slept like a baby. Jinx was incredibly enthusiastic and accommodating, always ready to help. The location is very convenient with good transport links, yet the surroundings are still quiet. Excellent value for money, I'll definitely choose this place again next time!

Deluxe N3 - River-View (Double Bed)
I booked this room specifically for the corner glass window, and it truly offered great views and was very clean. The mini-bar was consistently restocked, as were the complimentary snacks. Plus, there was daily afternoon tea, making me feel stuffed like a Peking duck! My only slight disappointment was the lack of a bathtub in a 50+ square meter room, especially considering the price was over 2,000 RMB. Also, the breakfast selection was a bit limited, which is understandable given the small lobby area. However, the service was excellent, with everyone always greeting you warmly.

The service was great! My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights. The hotel is right by IFC, offering panoramic views. The room cleanliness was just okay; after we went out, housekeeping didn't quite tidy everything up in some areas. This needs improvement.

King Classic River View
Exceptional views and top notch quality and comfort. You get what you pay for. Everything from the room, stunning views and quality hotel buffet breakfast are hallmarks of a luxury hotel. The bedding was very comfortable for a good night's rest and service extremely customer oriented. The hotel gifted us with a bottle of white wine and specially dressed up the room to celebrate our special occasion. Front desk was also very generous to grant a late check out to 4pm!! Much appreciated and we had such a wonderful 2 nights. It's a plus that you can take a nice evening stroll to the famous Hongyadong and will be within close proximity to the intersection between Jialing and Yangtze Rivers. Also very near to spots like Shibati and Liziba via metro connected to Raffles City mal.

The service was also very good, and our stay was comfortable with amazing river views. The pool was a real highlight – clean, hygienic, well-designed, and luxurious. The layout is very practical too. 🌆 The Westin Chongqing Liberation Square

  • Location: Nestled in the heart of Yuzhong District, just steps away from the bustling Liberation Square (Jiefangbei), this hotel offers a different perspective – one rooted in the urban core.
  • Key Views: While less about direct river confluence views than the InterContinental, The Westin provides excellent urban cityscapes, views of the vibrant Jiefangbei CBD, and the surrounding mountainous terrain. Some rooms might offer partial river views. The rooftop bar or higher floors are key for expansive shots.
  • Photography Tips:
    • Best Time: Nighttime is particularly impressive, with the neon glow of Jiefangbei and the surrounding skyscrapers. Daytime shots can capture the energy of the commercial district.
    • Angles: Focus on the dense urban fabric, the architectural variety of the CBD, and the interplay of light and shadow on the buildings. Look for interesting street-level compositions as well.
    • Gear: A standard zoom lens is ideal for capturing the dynamic street scenes and urban architecture. Consider a polarizing filter for daytime shots to reduce glare from glass buildings.

Privileged Executive River View Twin Room
Whenever I visit a city, I always choose Westin, but the Chongqing Westin truly surprised me in many ways… Facilities: The facilities are excellent. I walked a lot every day in Chongqing, so it was amazing to just lie on the bed and enjoy the river view when I was tired. Cleanliness: It was very clean, and the bathroom was especially spacious. The shower and toilet were separate, which was very convenient. Environment: The location is superb. You can walk to any attraction from the hotel. Service: Every staff member was incredibly warm and attentive, greeting guests cheerfully. Even the cleaning aunties were kind and approachable; they even offered extra bottles of water when they found out my child was feeling unwell, telling us to drink more warm water! I really want to highlight the breakfast – I loved it! There was a wide variety of options. The ladies preparing the noodles and wontons were especially thoughtful, greeting each guest with a 'Welcome to Chongqing' as they served their food.

Executive Deluxe Twin Room
As many have said, a Ferrari, even when old, is still a Ferrari. The room itself was quite good in all aspects, and the smart toilet was a nice touch. There weren't enough charging outlets though. We booked a city view room and could still catch a glimpse of the river, but the unfinished building next door was a bit of an eyesore. The breakfast had a large variety of food, but nothing particularly stood out in terms of taste. The executive lounge in the evening was pretty decent, with fried rice, takoyaki, various sushi, and small desserts – definitely enough to fill up on. It seems there are many other hotels in the same building as the Westin, which gives the whole building a strange vibe. The small pool on the rooftop is just for show; you can't actually swim in it. The pool on the 6th floor, however, is quite large. The welcome fruit was just two oranges, clearly not as thoughtful as the hotel across the street. This was part of our family trip to Chongqing for Chinese New Year, with two nights at the Hyatt and two at the Westin. Staying in Jiefangbei is really convenient.

Superior Deluxe King Room
We enjoyed your stay at the Westin immensely. - delicious breakfast with a generous spread! Very enjoyable and appreciated. - Very very comfortable bed. We came from an expensive 民宿 where the surroundings were beautiful but the bed was unsuitable for sleep. So this was such a great change. - Spa was a great experience - but the hotel voucher went unused because it was cheaper to buy on other apps. This made very little sense to us. - Lovely view from our room at night, and it was nice to soak in the bath tub and enjoy the night lights - Great location, walking distance to hongyadong, kuixing tower, jiefangbei, etc. - Lastly, the hotel runs a huge operation but their

✨ Further Recommendations Offer

When planning your photography trip to Chongqing:

  • Room Selection: Always request a high-floor room with a "river view" or "city view" specifically. Corner rooms or rooms with balconies often provide the best angles.
  • Executive Lounges: Many luxury hotels offer executive lounge access, which often feature exceptional views and are less crowded than public areas, providing a relaxed environment for photography.
  • Weather Considerations: Chongqing is known for its fog, especially in winter. While sometimes it can obscure views, it can also create dramatic, ethereal photographic opportunities. Check forecasts but be prepared for anything!
  • Beyond the Hotel: While these hotels offer fantastic in-house views, remember to explore iconic public viewpoints like Eling Park, Nanshan Botanical Garden (for city panoramas), and Hongyadong for unique perspectives of the stilt houses and river.
