Things to Do in Tokyo with Kids: 10 Stroller-Friendly Picks and the Best Areas to Stay

by yijia
April 30, 2026
The scenario is for traveling with children in Tokyo.
This guide is for parents visiting Tokyo with a baby, toddler, or preschooler who want fun days without turning every outing into a transport puzzle. The biggest decision is not just which attractions to choose, but which ones actually work with a stroller, snack breaks, diaper stops, and early bedtimes. The questions below focus on the most useful family choices: the best things to do in Tokyo with kids, which places are genuinely stroller-friendly, how to group activities by area, and where to stay for easier mornings and fewer transfers. Tokyo can work very well for families, but it rewards simple planning over ambitious hopping.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo with kids if I want stroller-friendly plans?
The best things to do in Tokyo with kids are the ones that give you fast payoff: something fun within minutes of arrival, baby facilities nearby, and no brutal station maze before lunch. If you want a low-stress shortlist, start with places that cluster play, food, and rest stops in the same zone.
- Tokyo Disneyland — the best full-day fantasy outing for toddlers and preschoolers. It has stroller rentals, baby care centers, family-friendly rides, and plenty of parades and character experiences, which makes it one of the easiest theme park days for families near Tokyo.
- Ueno Zoo — the best all-rounder for toddlers and preschoolers. It has nursing rooms, stroller rentals, and stroller-user maps, which makes it one of the easiest full family outings in the city.
- National Museum of Nature and Science — a strong rainy-day choice for curious kids. Its ComPaSS family area is designed for children around ages 4 to 6, but strollers stay outside that zone, so it works best once your child can walk a bit.
- Ueno Park — the best buffer stop between bigger attractions. It sits right by Ueno Station and combines open space, a pond, museums, and the zoo in one compact district.
- Tokyo Skytree Town + Sumida Aquarium — one of the easiest half-day combos in Tokyo. You get views, food, indoor backup, and Solamachi facilities like baby rooms and coin-operated strollers.
- The Asakusa-to-Skytree walk — a good nap-friendly, low-pressure outing. Skytree is an easy walk from Asakusa, and the area around it is flatter than many transfer-heavy sightseeing routes.
- Tokyo Sea Life Park — calmer than a mega theme park and easier for younger kids, with visitor information specifically covering infant facilities.
- Odaiba Marine Park — best when your kids need open air and space, not another queue. The Odaiba waterfront is built around family entertainment and promenade-style movement.
- LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tokyo — one of the best hot-weather or rainy-day options. Official information notes stroller parking, an elevator for strollers and wheelchairs, multipurpose restrooms, and a cafe.
- KidZania Tokyo — best for kids who are old enough to actively participate. It is designed for children ages 3 to 15, so it is fantastic for school-age travelers and much less useful for babies.

Buying tickets during the trip and scanning them at the entrance was very convenient. I recommend downloading the Tokyo Disney Resort app; it lets you plan your itinerary, shows wait times for rides, and much more. The popcorn is delicious, and each zone has different flavors. We bought (I think) every flavor and they were so good we ate them all day! The rides are suitable for children, focusing on lighthearted fun and scenic views. Overall, we were very impressed. I recommend going early in the morning; even weekdays are crowded, and weekends are even worse. If you have the chance, you should definitely go! It's fun 👍

It's really fun and exciting, but there are always long queues, and getting a Fastpass requires some skill.

Which Tokyo attractions are truly stroller-friendly, and which are better with a baby carrier?
The short answer is this: some Tokyo attractions are stroller-friendly, and some are only stroller-tolerant. The difference matters. The easiest places let you keep the stroller with you or park it close by without losing the whole rhythm of the day. The harder places are immersive venues, long-transfer districts, or attractions where the stroller stops at the door.
Truly easy with a stroller: Ueno Zoo, Tokyo Skytree Town, Tokyo Sea Life Park, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tokyo, Tokyo Dome City, and the Odaiba waterfront. These places either provide baby rooms, stroller rentals, stroller parking, elevators, or flatter family-oriented layouts.
Fine with a compact foldable stroller: the National Museum of Nature and Science and KidZania Tokyo. Both are good family picks, but the museum’s ComPaSS area requires stroller parking, and KidZania is far more rewarding once children are old enough to fully join in.
Better with a baby carrier: teamLab Planets TOKYO. It is visually brilliant, but the official help page states that baby strollers are not allowed inside the museum. This is a much better choice for babies who are happy to be worn than for families relying on a stroller nap schedule.
Transport is workable, but this is where Tokyo gets harder. Tokyo Metro says you can ride without folding your stroller and use the designated multipurpose spaces, yet crowded transfers are still the main friction point. Avoid rush hour, plan around elevators, and never use an escalator with a child seated in the stroller; Tokyo Metro explicitly says to take the child out and fold the stroller for escalator use, and staff can assist when needed.

Ginza/Tsukiji Tokyo|0.49km from city center
The best hotel I’ve stayed so far in Tokyo. Ginza is my most favorite district in Tokyo, and knowing Ginza as a luxury place, it is surprising to be at a 4-star hotel that doesn’t break the bank. I love the location that it is near to everything that you need - train station, Don Quijote, konbini, pharmacy, malls. The cherry on top - the great view of the skyscrapers of Tokyo, especially the Tokyo tower from a distance. I like how the room is designed to have a great view of the skyscrapers as well aside from the lobby. The room was quite small, but I do understand due to the limited spaces and such in Japan. Even though the room is small, I’d still give it a 5/5 due to the overall cleanliness, view, amneties, elegance and luxurious vibe that doesn’t need to be expensive, great toilet and bath as special mention. The staffs are very helpful and attentive. Their simple greetings and smiles are more than enough to make you feel welcome and brighten up your day/night. If I would go back to Tokyo in the next couple of months, I will definitely book again on this hotel, as this is the gem I’ve found. If the management will allow, I would like to have a special mention to Sue (I’m not sure if the spelling is correct). She is very attentive to me and helped me ensure that me and my dad’s luggage are secured, and of course when it was time for me to get the luggage. She is polite and made me felt warm with the little and quick side conversation we had. Hope to see Sue again when I come back. It is nice to meet her, and hopefully may keep in touch. Thank you management team for always keeping your guests welcome and at home. -MarkAmazing2235 Reviews

We had a wonderful family stay at Tokyo Dome Hotel. The location was perfect — right next to Tokyo Dome City with plenty of entertainment, food options, and easy access to the subway. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and offered beautiful city views. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay, making check-in smooth and ensuring we had everything we needed. Our child enjoyed the nearby attractions, and it made exploring Tokyo so convenient for the whole family. Overall, a great experience and a hotel we would happily return to on our next trip to Tokyo. Highly recommended for families!Great2104 Reviews

I was really pleased with my stay at the Prince Hotel Tower in Tokyo! The location is incredibly convenient, with easy access to transportation, making it simple to explore the city. Upon entering the lobby, I was struck by its grandeur, yet the staff were friendly and welcoming, creating a warm atmosphere. The room was spacious and clean, with a stunning view. I was on a floor that offered a glimpse of Tokyo Tower, which looked beautiful when lit up at night. Just sitting by the window felt worth the price. The bed and pillows were very comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. I also recommend the breakfast, which had a wide variety of options, both Japanese and Western, all served elegantly. Plus, there’s a lovely garden nearby for a morning stroll, which was quite enjoyable. This hotel is definitely one I’d want to return to. Both the facilities and the quality of service instilled a sense of security, making my experience truly delightful.Business travel

Great hotel in a quiet part of Ginza . The room is spacious and all the staff is super nice , especially the uncle outside the hotel who always greets you with the biggest smile . The only thing this hotel needs to improve is the breakfast … the coffee machine is old and leaky and the food is cold and not super tasty given the amazing food you can get outside . It was my first time in Japan. I picked this hotel because of the views and it didn't disappoint! It was a beautiful stay and I felt safe. Staff are very friendly and always on hand to help, nothing is ever too much. The comments about it being old-fashioned, tbh it looks vintage style like the 1930s which is a cool vibe which I loved. Vintage style elevators. I'd say if you love vintage you'd love this hotel. I booked an extra night because I felt comfortable staying here.Family friendly

The hotel has a convenient location with easy access to many of the busiest hubs. The buffet breakfast is decent, but there are definitely better options nearby. I enjoyed walking to nearby areas like Daikanyama, Nakameguro, and Ebisu. After dinner, I cherished some quiet moments. There isn’t enough space for the amenities in the bathroom.Amazing163 Reviews

I rarely give all five stars but Aman Tokyo definitely deserves it, I told携程 it was my girlfriends birthday and they prepared a cake and wrote a note for us, it was amazing service all around, I was kinda expecting a normal view and a regular five star hotel room for a way more expansive price, but Aman Tokyo definitely went way above my expectations, the view is simply ten times better than it is online, it was a bit hard to find the entry if you walk but over fantastic experience, however the breakfast I recommend Japanese style over America style, America style is not as good.Great401 Reviews

I absolutely *loved* our stay here. From the rooftop onsen, with a fabulous views across Tokyo, to the lovely little extras (like the free ice-cream after the onsen, and 10pm treats). The entrance and lobby are just beautiful, a calm oasis after the madness of Tokyo. The location is perfect - far enough away from the busiest streets to be quiet at night, but close enough to be in the thick of things. Our road had a wonderful izakaya, a fantastic ramen place, and a gem of a breakfast cafe on it, as well as the obligatory 7-elevens, and was very close to the Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens. Our room was tiny, but we knew this making the booking - I would advise paying close attention to the room size, so that you know what you're getting when you make the booking. There are much larger rooms available, for a higher price. The difference in room size could make a big difference to your stay, if you have a lot of luggage (which we didn't). I will absolutely stay here again, next time I'm in Tokyo.Very Good740 Reviews

The hygiene at this hotel is impeccable. When you arrive you are not allowed to wear any shoes inside the hotel and you clean your suitcase before entering. The room is a good size, with a strong shower in the bathroom. Bed and pillow is quite hard but it didn't affect my sleep. I loved the onsen area. They have onsen, cold bath and a mineral bath as well as a sauna. It was great to use this after a day of walking. The only downside was breakfast, there is a good range and I did eat some of the food. However, I just felt like when I'd read reviews online it was praising the breakfast. For me though, I thought it was avergae. I didn't think it was worth the money. The hotel is a good location not too far from some of the metro lines and has a number of restaurants and supermarkets close by. Would definitely consider staying here again. The hotel is good value for money.Very Good1936 Reviews

The hotel isn't right next to a subway station, but the shuttle bus service is super convenient, running every 15 minutes to and from Meguro Station. It pretty much covers all your transportation needs. It wasn't until after we checked out that we realized they'd upgraded our room type! It was definitely bigger, and we could easily spread out three 28-inch suitcases, which was really handy. The only downside was that the facilities felt a bit old. Even though it had been renovated, there was still an unpleasant smell from the sink drain in the bathroom.Amazing338 Reviews

Shinjuku Area Tokyo|6.73km from city center
1. **Facilities:** The hotel has a main building and a south building. If you're sensitive to noise, definitely book a room on the 30th floor or higher in the main building. Rooms below the 30th floor haven't been renovated, so they have old facilities and poor soundproofing. On my first night, I stayed on the 29th floor. The room was old, and the gap under the door was huge, so there was basically no sound insulation. Any noise in the corridor could be heard, which meant I didn't get any rest all night. The duvet was also a Japanese style, like a 'sandwich cookie' – sheets on the top and bottom with the duvet in the middle, unlike our usual duvets with a proper cover. The bathroom also had the old Japanese style where the sink and tub were crammed together, and you had to stand inside the tub to shower. The next morning, I asked the front desk to change rooms, and I got one on the 31st floor, which was completely different from the 29th! The room was larger than the 29th-floor one, newly renovated, and had a wet and dry separation in the bathroom, meaning the sink and shower area were separate. The shower area even had both a shower and a soaking tub. The shower gel and shampoo were all L'Occitane brand, and the duvet had a proper cover. Most importantly, the soundproofing was much, much better! So take my advice: when booking, make sure to ask the front desk for a new room, as I feel there might be some preferential treatment given that many Westerners book this hotel.
2. **Transportation:** There's a direct shuttle bus from Haneda Airport to the hotel entrance. The bus attendant will help you with your luggage, so you don't have to carry it yourself, which is perfect for travelers with large suitcases. The return trip is the same, and this was one of the reasons I booked this hotel. However, it's worth noting that the earliest hotel shuttle to the airport on the return trip is at 8 AM. If you have an early flight, you'll need to go to the Shinjuku Bus Terminal to catch a bus to the airport. I had a 9 AM flight that day, so I had to go to the Shinjuku terminal. Luckily, the hotel isn't too far from the Shinjuku terminal, about a 15-minute walk. I asked the hotel staff to call a taxi for me, which cost around 1000 yen. For the subway, the closest station is Shinjuku, about a 10-minute walk to the entrance.
3. **Dining:** There's a 7-Eleven convenience store downstairs from the hotel. If you don't want to eat breakfast at the hotel, you can cross the street opposite the hotel entrance and walk for about 3 minutes to find a cafe for breakfast. Since the building above is offices, many local office workers choose to eat there. The coffee and food are decent, and the prices are reasonable. I recommend trying the pork cutlet sandwich – it's delicious.
**Cleanliness:** I have to admit, the cleanliness was excellent, whether in the old 29th-floor room or the 31st-floor room. It was consistently top-notch, meeting five-star standards. Even though the old room was dated, it wasn't dirty. I specifically checked the bathtub for stains, and there was no dust in the crevices of the bedside tables, on the TV remote, or on the air purifier – all those little spots you don't usually notice. So, cleanliness-wise, it's definitely okay.Great682 Reviews

This hotel is truly heartwarming. It's located in Hibiya Park, very close to Shimbashi Station. The lobby on the 18th floor offers expansive views and feels bright and grand. We were given a room on the 27th floor, and we could even spot the tip of Tokyo Tower from our window. The room layout was well-designed and fully equipped, including a Japanese shower/bathtub. Although not huge, there was enough space to open two 24-inch suitcases. The twin beds were both 1.2 meters wide, a bit soft, but very comfortable to sleep on. There were plenty of breakfast options, including sashimi rice bowls, and you could help yourself to soft drinks in the lounge. Most of the guests were Westerners, and the staff's English was fluent, making communication smooth. The service was superb! Since our stay coincided with my daughter's birthday, we received a meticulously handwritten card from the hotel staff! We also got a birthday gift, and all our requests for the room were met. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Tokyo.Swimming pool

This was my second stay at the station hotel, and it's incredibly convenient for transit. Upon arrival at Tokyo Station, you can walk towards the Marunouchi South Exit where a small door directly accesses the hotel, so you don't even need to go outside. This time, I booked the hotel's basic 36-square-meter room. The room had a peculiar smell, which I suspect might have been due to the humidity during the rainy season, making my stay feel uncomfortable. The room's location wasn't ideal either; it overlooked some equipment with absolutely no view. The 40-square-meter room type I stayed in before was much better. However, the hotel service and breakfast were, as always, excellent.Great688 Reviews

This was my first time staying at The Peninsula Tokyo, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we began corresponding with the hotel before arrival, the team made it clear that this was going to be a special stay.
I had reached out in advance as this was an important trip for our family, and the team – especially Ms. Kim – went above and beyond to help organise everything smoothly. Every detail was handled with care, and it really set the tone for our visit.
Throughout our stay, every interaction made us feel genuinely welcome. The lobby team, the staff at Peter, and housekeeping were all consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Small gestures, friendly smiles, and a real willingness to help turned a simple hotel stay into a collection of memories we will cherish for a long time.
This trip has made The Peninsula Tokyo our new fav stay in the city. There is a wonderful sense of warmth and hospitality here, and you feel that everyone is truly invested in making your stay as special as possible. We are already looking forward to returning on our next visit to Tokyo.Great683 Reviews
Ginza/Tsukiji Tokyo|0.74km from city center
If 100 is a perfect score, this hotel has its pros and cons. The convenient location and room size both deserve a 90. The shower water pressure and the service from most of the staff are at least an 80. However, you can clearly hear the subway from the room, and even with the small window handle adjusted up or down, the noise persists. During my two-night stay, one night I couldn't fall asleep until the subway stopped running in the middle of the night. The next morning, I was woken up by the noise around 7 AM. I groggily recorded a video, but my phone's microphone near the bed didn't capture it well. The actual sound is about one to two times louder than what's in the video. The room also didn't provide earplugs, which is quite unbearable – I'm deducting 70 points for this. There were noticeable marks on the room walls and the bathroom floor, so I'm taking off another 50 points. The carpet is old and somewhat damaged, and the room looks dingy. For a room that costs over 1500 per night, this warrants another 60-point deduction. So, this is a hotel with overly distinct pros and cons.Great1256 Reviews

The location is fantastic! It's right outside the subway exit, so you don't have to worry about getting wet if it rains. There's also a bus stop directly across the street with services to both Narita and Haneda airports, which is a huge plus. It makes getting around incredibly convenient. The hotel offers dedicated English service, which is excellent. While the facilities are a bit dated, they do have a currency exchange machine for Japanese Yen, and the breakfast is also very good.Breakfast

It was a good choice to stay if you need to be close to the Haneda airport. The best thing they have free shuttle to the airport (as early as 4am), so that's a great bonus (first come first served), the shuttle seats around 10ppl. 2 station from the airport line. The room was actually a nice decent size for a hotel, a seperate eating ,table area with kitchenette . No noise from the planes at all. It was just an overnight stay , so no complains , good choice for the price. How should I group these activities into an easy Tokyo itinerary with kids?
The smartest Tokyo with kids itinerary is neighborhood-based, not checklist-based. Keep one core district for the morning, one nearby follow-up for the afternoon, and stop before you squeeze in a third major attraction. Families usually lose more energy in transfers than in the attractions themselves.
Easy East Tokyo day: start with Ueno Zoo or the National Museum of Nature and Science, have lunch near Ueno Station, then move to Asakusa or Tokyo Skytree Town for the afternoon. This works because Ueno already bundles park, zoo, and museums around a major station, while Asakusa and Skytree pair naturally on the east side.
Easy Bay day: choose one anchor only—KidZania Tokyo, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tokyo, or Tokyo Sea Life Park—then finish with Odaiba Marine Park or mall time instead of adding another ticketed stop. Odaiba and Toyosu are much better for slow family movement, snack stops, and flexible pacing than for trying to cover too many landmarks.
Rainy-day fallback: Tokyo Dome City ASOBono! or the National Museum of Nature and Science usually makes more sense than forcing a long outdoor sightseeing day in bad weather. These are the kinds of places that save a trip when naps run late or the forecast turns on you.
A good family rule is to book only one timed indoor attraction per day and treat everything after that as optional. That leaves room for a slow lunch, a stroller nap, or a quick retreat when your child has clearly had enough.
Where should I stay in Tokyo with kids for the smoothest stroller travel?
For most families, the easiest bases are Ueno, Asakusa/Tokyo Skytree area, and Odaiba/Toyosu. These neighborhoods reduce unnecessary cross-city travel and put you closer to the attractions that actually work well with children and strollers. If transit convenience matters more than atmosphere, Tokyo Station/Ginza is also a practical option.
Ueno is the best base for first-timers who want classic family sightseeing with minimal daily friction. You have the zoo, park, and major museums in one district right next to a major transport hub.
Asakusa / Tokyo Skytree area is best for a slower-paced trip. It works well for stroller naps, flexible half-days, and easy pairing of traditional sightseeing with modern family facilities. Skytree is walkable from Asakusa, and Solamachi adds baby rooms and stroller rentals that make the area especially forgiving.
Odaiba / Toyosu is best for families who need space. Waterfront walks, indoor attractions, shopping complexes, and easier weather backups all make this area feel less intense than central Tokyo. It is especially good if your kids enjoy hands-on play more than temples and shopping streets.
Tokyo Station / Ginza is best for families who care most about transport convenience and department-store-level facilities. The Tokyo accessibility guide highlights family-friendly facilities such as kids’ restrooms and nursing rooms around Ginza, which can make this area surprisingly practical with younger children.
Trip.com listings are useful for checking room photos, laundry, breakfast, and how far a hotel really sits from the station exit you will actually use. On a stroller-heavy Tokyo trip, the right neighborhood usually saves more energy than chasing a trendier hotel deal across town.
