Kapalai Island: the closest island to Sipadan Kapalai Island is one of the nearest islands to the diving holy place of Sipadan. There is no vast beach, no coconut trees, only the sea as far as the eye can see, and the marvelous underwater world makes it as famous as the small Maldives. In fact, Kapalai is more beautiful than the Maldives. When the weather is calm without wind, the sea is like an aquarium without walls, never-seen corals and fish, even wild turtles are very common, come here to experience the wonder of snorkeling. if you go to Kapalai to dive, first go to Semporna’s dive shop. You can directly book at Kapali Water House and rent all the tools for diving in the island, at the diving center.
The people traveling to Semporna only go there for diving. Sipadan Island, not far from Semporna, is a mecca for the divers. But it is more suitable for divers with rich experience; beginners can dive at other islands. The nearest airport to Semporna is Tawau International Airport. Kuala Lumpur and Yapi have direct flights to Tawau International Airport, so you can reach this airport first and then charter a car to Semporna.
Semporna is a typical tropical climate, hot all year round, but it will be a bit cooler at night. It sees more rainfall throughout the year than other parts of Malaysia. But the rainy season is very short and only lasts from November to January. Every year from May to September, it is the best season for turtle watching. Don’t miss it if the time is right. There are buses from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau, but it is a bumpy and uncomfortable 10 hour journey.
