Last year I took the MSC Europa on the Western Mediterranean route, and this year during the National Day holiday I wanted to travel to the Eastern Mediterranean, so I chose this ship. Itinerary: The cruise day was 3 days, but one port was cancelled. The weather was bad on Crete, so the ship didn't stop, making it a missed day. The Olympia shuttle was also cancelled due to weather, and instead stopped at Caffaronia. Fortunately, Caffaronia was absolutely stunning, far exceeding my expectations. After crossing the Strait of Messina, we even detoured past the Stromboli volcano, and we were pleasantly surprised to see it erupting from the ship. Environment: Absolutely gorgeous, it felt like something out of the movie Titanic. Everywhere was decorated with classic solid wood, beautiful sofas, a traditional-style theater box in the theater, and even a library with a spiral staircase—very, very retro. Activities: I chose this ship based on the itinerary and time constraints, but I didn't expect the average age of the passengers to be so high (I felt it was at least 60-70). I think my 30-year-old couple were probably the youngest couple on board. Overall, the activities were more suitable for seniors. Two days of the theater performances were British stand-up comedy, which I didn't quite understand – the humor of older British men was a bit hard to grasp. One day featured an American patriotic opera about a post-9/11 Canadian story; the plot was rather cliché, but the singing was excellent. The other days consisted of regular song and dance performances and instrumental music, all of which were of high quality. Important: Luckily, I brought a suit and tie, as there were two gala nights during the seven-day trip! Formal attire is required! You can't enter the dinner restaurant without it (it doesn't matter at the buffet)! There are even dress style and color requirements for ladies. You also need to wear collared clothing for everyday meals. Fortunately, this is my usual style, but those who prefer casual/sporty styles might find it a bit unusual. The food on board was above average for a cruise ship. The service was good, but there was an additional $8 per person service charge per day after boarding, which was just average considering the price. A bottle of champagne was provided in the room upon check-in, but since we don't drink alcohol, we gave it to the staff. The elderly people on the boat were indeed very friendly, but the biggest drawback for young people might be the lack of opportunities to make friends of their own age. Surprisingly, there were so few Chinese people on our trip during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, and no couples of our age, which was a bit of a disappointment. However, it's still worth a try for those who like retro style.

Overall, the cruise experience was great 👍 The facilities were new, the food was plentiful, the rooms were spacious and comfortable, and there were plenty of activities. The only problem was the language barrier, which made it a little difficult for us to fully immerse ourselves in the experience. However, I still think that cruise travel is the best choice in expensive countries like Northern Europe, where you don't have to change rooms and the food is plentiful.

A long-haul cruise from Italy to Dubai, passing through the famous Suez Canal, was a truly unique journey. The majority of passengers were elderly, and perhaps due to the long duration, the food was predominantly Western. The cruise route included stops in Rome, Athens, Haifa, Jordan, Oman, and Abu Dhabi before arriving in Dubai. A visa is required to disembark in Israel; previously, it could be obtained on board, but this is no longer possible. Disembarkation was possible in other cities, and hiring a private car to visit attractions was much cheaper and more convenient than the ship's bus.

Frequently Asked Questions

You must carry a passport with an expiration date that meets the destination's requirements (usually valid for at least 6 months after the cruise ends; please refer to the actual boarding information), your cruise boarding pass (e-ticket or printed copy), and any visas required by all countries/regions on your itinerary. Depending on your nationality, other identification documents (such as a residence card or national ID card) may also be required. Please confirm the final requirements with the relevant embassies or consulates and the cruise line before departure.
Modern large cruise ships are equipped with advanced stabilizers and are routed to avoid rough seas, meaning most passengers never experience noticeable seasickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, consider booking a cabin on the mid-to-lower decks where movement is minimal. Other helpful tips include packing motion sickness medication, wearing anti-nausea wristbands, and getting fresh air on open decks. Note: Medication availability at the onboard medical center varies, so please check with your specific cruise line.
The vast majority of cruises automatically charge a fixed service fee to your daily cruise card account. For specific rates and collection methods, please refer to the information published by the cruise line after boarding. This fee typically covers basic gratuities for room service, dining staff, and more. Unless you wish to tip extra for exceptional service, additional cash tips are not required. We recommend consulting the cruise line's official guidelines when booking or after boarding.
Most international cruise lines use the US Dollar as their onboard currency. Upon boarding, you will link a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.) to your cruise card. The ship operates on a "cashless" system, meaning all onboard purchases (dining, drinks, shopping, service fees) are charged directly to your account and settled at the end of the trip. While you don't need large amounts of cash on board, we recommend bringing some small bills (USD or local currency) for minor expenses and tips at ports of call.
Usually, within an hour after leaving port, your phone will connect to a maritime roaming network, which carries extremely high call and data roaming charges (often exceeding US$ 5/minute). We strongly advise putting your phone in Airplane Mode and relying solely on the ship's Wi-Fi. Most ships offer paid Wi-Fi packages. Purchasing a voyage-long package is generally much more cost-effective than paying by the day. Some luxury cruise lines include basic Wi-Fi in your fare.
Every international cruise ship is equipped with a medical center staffed by at least one internationally certified doctor and nurse. They are fully capable of treating common illnesses (colds, gastroenteritis) and minor injuries. Please note: Onboard medical care is quite expensive, and the pharmacy has limited stock. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance with cruise medical coverage and packing an ample supply of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you regularly use.
After boarding, you must attend a mandatory safety drill (usually required to be completed within 24 hours). During the drill, you will hear the ship's dedicated alarm signal. Please immediately put on your life jacket (located in your cabin closet) and follow the evacuation route map on the back of your door to your designated assembly station. Please keep in mind: Do not use the elevators, follow the crew's instructions, and stay calm. Even if you have been on multiple cruises, you must participate in the drill on every new voyage. Please refer to the ship's on-site broadcasts and guidance for the specific signal and assembly location.
On the night before disembarkation, please follow the instructions issued by the cruise line to attach baggage tags to your checked luggage (excluding clothing, documents and valuables you will need the next morning) and place it in the designated area outside your stateroom door. Keep your passport, room key card and a small amount of carry-on belongings with you. On the day of disembarkation, please vacate your stateroom before the specified time and disembark in batches as notified. Do not linger in the stateroom. Finally, check all drawers, wardrobes and the safe. For the specific schedule and baggage requirements, please refer to the "Disembarkation Guide" provided by the cruise line.

The Ultimate Lazy Cruise Guide: 3 Countries, 1 Ship, Zero Stress!

The Ultimate Lazy Cruise Guide: 3 Countries, 1 Ship, Zero Stress!

✈️ I’m not a fan of long flights or living out of a suitcase — so I tried something new: Boarded in Singapore, stayed in one room, and woke up in a different country every day. 🌏🛳️ Ovation of the Seas is back in Asia from April 2025, and honestly? It’s the easiest trip I’ve taken. What’s onboard? · 🛰️ North Star capsule for full 360° ocean views · 🎭 Two70° theater with wraparound shows · 🌀 Skydiving simulator & surf pool (didn’t try, fun to watch though) · 🍣 18+ restaurants — I kept rotating between steakhouse, buffet & dumpling bar · 🌅 My fav part: sunset drinks + quiet walks on deck You can stay active 24/7 or do absolutely nothing. I did a mix of both. Routes I considered (all round-trip from Singapore): 1️⃣ 4D3N – Singapore → Penang → Singapore 2️⃣ 5D4N – Penang + Phuket 3️⃣ 9D8N – Surabaya, Bali, Lombok 4️⃣ 15D14N – ends in Japan (Yokohama) — the slow travel dream ✅ No flights ✅ No hotel check-ins ✅ Just unpack once and enjoy the sea I saw couples, big families, solo travelers — it really works for anyone. And the ship’s big enough that you can always find your own quiet spot. 📍Best part? The journey feels like part of the destination. Not rushing, just floating. #RoyalCaribbean #IslandHopping #SlowTravel

Worthy of being called the "cruise ceiling"! 6 days and 5 nights of luxurious relaxation experience

Worthy of being called the "cruise ceiling"! 6 days and 5 nights of luxurious relaxation experience

I've never been on the MSC Meraviglia! This 6-day, 5-night luxury cruise was absolutely amazing! 🌊My time on the MSC cruise ship completely cured my anxiety! The swaying waves were the perfect white noise!💤 The gentle sea breeze and ever-changing sunsets on deck!🌅 Eat, lie down, get tipsy, unwind, feel free... This is probably the vacation every working person dreams of!👑 👩‍💻As a travel blogger who's always on the road, I've personally proven that cruise travel is my #1 favorite of the year!✨ No rushing to see attractions! No moving hotels! No itinerary! An entire happy planet is floating on the sea 🏰 Even the scenery is literally arriving at your doorstep 🔖Recommended 6-day, 5-night itinerary: Depart from Shanghai International Cruise Port → Sasebo → Busan → Return to Shanghai (A quick note: MSC's service truly spoils passengers) ✨"What You Need to Know About This Castle at Sea" ▫️Balcony Room: 180° Unparalleled Ocean View + Exclusive Champagne Time 🍾 ▫️Foodie Paradise: 4 complimentary restaurants + a 15th-floor ocean view buffet—a true foodie paradise! Sichuan barbecued crayfish...a delight for Chinese stomachs 😋 ▫️Old Money Aesthetics: A galactic staircase crafted from 60,000 crystals—the Italians truly understand romance! ▫️Warm Service: The crew was incredibly nice and thoughtfully provided us with the next day's itinerary every day❤️ 🎡"You'll Never Be Bored on Board" ✔️Shop Now: Duty-Free Shopping Street, a shopaholic's paradise ✔️Play to Your Heart: Waterpark + F1 Racing + Bowling + XD Cinema ✔️See a Show: Broadway-caliber musicals on a rotating schedule ✔️Drink to Your Heart's Content: 20+ unique bars, offering tipsy fun from sunset to late night ✔️Relax: 6 pools + a jacuzzi, perfect for sunbathing 💭The biggest takeaway from this trip: A true vacation isn't about rushing through itineraries, but about finding the most comfortable rhythm of life amidst the swaying waves, where even the flow of time becomes gentle. I still miss: The daily wake-up call of the sun and the never-ending sunsets over the Pacific Ocean✨

Things to do in Genting Dream Cruise at night

#singaporetrip #gentingdreamcruise During my first day in Genting Dream Cruise, I have been wondering what activities should I do during the night as we were on a ship. But there were also plenty of activities could be done during the night. Highlight of activities during night: Swimming pool/ hot tub (deck 18) · Open until 10pm · Swimming attire · live band Zodiac Theatre (deck 7) · live performance · usually around 9 pm The Lido (deck 16) · supper starts from 11pm -2am The boardwalk (deck 8) · relaxing and enjoy the night breeze Zouk Beach Club (deck 17) · movies time to those who wants to enjoy an open movie I had a blast during my stay. I will definitely come back in the near future.
