Clothing: Wear something you don't mind that may get grimy (aprons and PPE will be provided). Support: Please let us know in advance if there are any medical or learning requirements. We will endeavour to facilitate these if possible. The class is 3 hours long, starting at 6pm and ending at 9pm. Can I bring my own bike to work on? No. We will provide bikes to work on as there is a high chance that they may be damaged during the class and we wouldn't want you to be stranded without a bike. What is NECH? Expressive Movement Workshop with musician Louis La Porte | Centre 151

Dance
Unlock your ability to move freely and connect deeply with music, your body, and others. These workshops are designed to help you express yourself through movement and achieve a flow state—a mental space where time disappears, self-consciousness melts away, and you’re fully immersed in the joy of dancing. We will be accompanied by composer and musician Louis La Porte. As both a dancer and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT), I integrate tools from CBT to gently guide you in releasing self-doubt and unlocking your creative potential. This is a safe, playful, and non-judgmental space for you to explore movement—no matter your level of experience. What You’ll Learn: • Awareness: Tune into your thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. • Authenticity: Discover and generate movements that feel true to you. • Musicality: Build a stronger connection with music and develop your rhythm and style. • Connection: Share energy and creativity with others through partnered and group exercises. Workshop Highlights: The final 15 - 30 minutes will feature a group improvisation —a chance to let loose, experiment, and fully embody the tools you’ve learned. Who’s It For? Everyone! Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or completely new to movement, the improvisational nature of the tasks means you can engage at your own pace and ability. Practical Info: • Some partner work and physical contact will be included. • The workshop is donation-based to ensure it is accessbile to all. • Suggested donation: £7.50 - £20. • Can’t donate? No worries—just email me at d.rodriguez@hotmail.co.uk, and I’ll add you to the list, no questions asked. Videos https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFavWlWo9P2/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== https://www.instagram.com/deerodree/ Let’s Move Together! This workshop is about more than just dance—it’s about finding freedom in your movement, connecting with others, and embracing the music. Whether you’re looking to build confidence, develop new skills, or simply enjoy the joy of dancing, you’ll leave feeling inspired, energised, and ready to dance to any song. For questions, feel free to email or message me on Instagram. I can’t wait to move with you! About Me Hi, I’m Daniel Rodriguez, a registered Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and a dancer with the contemporary dance company HuMo. My journey into dance began later in life—at the age of 27. Over the past eight years, movement has completely transformed my life. It has helped me build self-confidence, better understand my emotions, and form deeper connections with others. Now, I’m dedicated to sharing the joy and power of dance with everyone, because I believe that movement is dance, and dance is for everyone. I’ve explored a wide variety of movement styles, including freestyle dance, contemporary, Gaga, German Tanztheatre, Butoh, ballet, ecstatic dance, and dance psychotherapy. Through these experiences, I’ve come to realise that dance is not about perfection or technique—it’s about expressing yourself, connecting with your body, connecting with the music, and embracing your unique way of moving. By blending the most impactful aspects of these practices with tools from my psychological training, I create workshops that empower people to connect with themselves, the music, and others in meaningful ways. Dance shouldn’t be exclusive or reserved for the privileged. Too often, the cost of classes makes dance inaccessible, and I want to change that. That’s why my workshops are donation-based—to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or financial situation, can experience the freedom, joy, and healing power of movement. Let’s celebrate that movement is for everyone. I can’t wait to move with you! Information Source: Daniel Rodriguez | eventbrite

The 20 exhibited pieces are organized around themes of the definition of love, personal experiences, social values, hope, and healing. ISoo believes that these works, centered on the theme of love, positively impact not only individual lives but also society and communities, providing hope for creating a better world. This exhibition is not just an artistic experience; it is our shared hope that it becomes a space for deep reflection on love. Through ISoo's works, we hope to rediscover the power of love, feel comfort and inspiration within it, and reconsider its precious value. Information Source: The Stroll Gallery | eventbrite

(de)fragmentation is an experimental group show featuring mixed-media female artists, running in Gallery 2 of QSS from March 6 to April 10, 2025. Curated by Meadhbh McIlgorm, the exhibition explores the review and reuse of the varied “stuff” accumulated throughout an artist’s practice. Artists are invited to reexamine and reinterpret past trials, tests, and studies, presenting them in a new context that aligns with the theme of (de)fragmentation. Join artist and curator Meadhbh McIlgorm and special guests for an engaging talk that delves into the exhibition’s themes and the stories behind the work on display. The concept of defragmentation—originally associated with organizing digital files to free up memory and improve processing—serves as a metaphor here. In the face of the climate emergency, this theme encourages artists to prioritize revisiting and reusing existing materials over creating new ones, making mindful use of available resources. Exhibiting artists: Alacoque Davey, Anushiya Sundaralingam, Cathy Scullion Clare French, Gail Ritchie, Grace McMurray, Kate O'Neill, Meadhbh McIlgorm, Sharon Kelly, Vasiliki Stasinaki https://www.queenstreetstudios.net https://www.meadhbhmcilgorm.com https://www.instagram.com/champagne_clouds._ https://www.instagram.com/qssartstudios Information Source: Imagine! Join us for a thought-provoking double-header where crime fiction translators, editors, and critics, and the best crime novelists from Ireland/Northern Ireland discuss the knotty issues of influence and translation, of national and transnational writing traditions and identities, and how far their work and the genre in general travels and the complications that accrue along the way. For ticketing purposes, these two sessions have been planned as a single event and we would like to encourage you to attend both sessions. There will be a wine reception in between the two panels. Panel 1. Translating the American Hardboiled Greats from English into French: Raymond Chandler, David Goodis and Horace McCoy Tuesday 25 March, 4-5pm Wolfson room, Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University Professor Benoît Tadié is the translator (English to French) of Raymond Chandler’s Le Grand Sommeil / The Big Sleep and a collection of Horace McCoy’s Black Mask short stories, Les Rangers du Ciel, for Gallimard’s world renowned Série noire, where he has also worked on some of the greatest US hard-boiled novels. These include David Goodis’s Tirez sur le pianiste/ Shoot the Piano Player (Down There) and Horace McCoy’s Un linceul n’a pas de poches / No Pockets in a Shroud. Prof Tadié has also translated British and Irish authors’ from T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land /La Terre dévastée and James Joyce’s Dubliners /Gens de Dublin to Bernard Mac Laverty’s Grace Notes/Symphonie pour Anna. In this captivating panel, he will be in conversation with QUB’s own Dominique Jeannerod and Andrew Pepper. They will talk about the difficulties and challenges of translating the distinctive hardboiled style, the specific issues arising from translating Chandler, McCoy and Goodis and the theories and practices of translation in general. They will also discuss why crime fiction as a genre has been such a powerful driver of translation practices globally. Benoît Tadié is Professor of American literature at Université Paris Nanterre and current chair of the French Society of Modernist Studies (https://sem-france.org/). His research focuses on modernist periodicals, and American hardboiled/noir fiction. He is the author of L’Expérience moderniste anglo-américaine 1908-1922: formes, idéologies, combats (Didier, 1999), James Joyce/Dubliners (Didier, 2000), and of two books on American noir fiction: Le polar américain, la modernité et le mal (Presses universitaires de France, 2006) and Front criminel: une histoire du polar américain de 1919 à nos jours (Presses universitaires de France, 2018). Tuesday 25 March, 5.30-7pm Wolfson room, Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University Panel 2. Writing, Reading, and Influence in Irish Crime Fiction A panel discussion with Gerard Brennan, Sharon Dempsey, Brian McGilloway and Anthony Quinn This motley crew of Irish crime novelists surely need no introduction to a Belfast audience – between them they have written some of the very best crime fiction in and of this place though exactly what this place means is never an easy question to answer. In doing they have breathed life into what was once, at least in an Irish context, a fairly moribund genre. Among other things we will discuss the current state of Irish / Northern Irish crime fiction, about how well and far their work travels to other places and cultures, and about the nature of their own reading tastes and influences, whether these are locally / nationally situated or extend across the water to either Britain and continental Europe or to further afield, the United States or what we might euphemistically called the world. Along the way we will discuss what crime fiction means here and there and what kind of audiences, local, national and global, they are writing for. It should not pass without note that Gerrard, Sharon, Brian and Anthony, as well as fantastic crime writers in their own right, are all doctors of philosophy, having completed (or almost completed) their PhDs at Queen’s. Gerard Brennan is the author of numerous (too many to count!) crime novels, novellas and short stories including Wee Rockets (2012) and Disorder (2018), published by No Alibis Press. Sharon Dempsey is the author of four crime ‎novels including After The Party (Pegasus) Who Took Eden ‎Mulligan? (Harper Collins Avon), and The Midnight ‎Killing (Harper Collins Avon) and two novellas. Brian McGilloway is the author of thirteen crime novels including the Ben Devlin and Lucy Black series, set in and around Derry/Strabane, and most recently The Last Crossing and The Empty Room. Anthony Quinn is the author of nine crime novels including the Celcius Daly series, set in and around the Tyrone border, and Turncoat and The Listeners, as well as the nonfiction Murder Memoir Murder. Renowned NY-based auctioneer and passionate collector Nicholas Lowry embarks on a captivating journey across the Czech Republic, uncovering the visual and cultural threads that define Czech national identity. Swapping the auction house for adventure, Czech-American Lowry—instantly recognizable in his signature tartan suit—travels from the vibrant streets of Prague to the design-rich cities of Zlín, Litomyšl, Brno, and Pilsen. Along the way, he delves into the legacies of visionary figures like Tomáš Baťa, Josef Váchal, Alfons Mucha, and Ladislav Sutnar, while also indulging in one of the country’s greatest exports—Pilsner beer. His exploration takes unexpected turns, from South Moravia’s vineyards, where he examines the artistry of wine labels, to the scenic hiking trails marked by the Czech Tourist Club’s innovative wayfinding system. Lowry also connects with today’s leading graphic designers, including Petr Babák, Martin Pecina, and Aleš Najbrt, bridging past and present in Czech visual culture. But this journey is more than just an exploration—it’s personal. As he traces the evolution of Czech design, Lowry uncovers a piece of his own history: his great-uncle founded the Primeros factory in Prague, a story intertwined with the nation’s graphic identity. Through humor, curiosity, and a collector’s keen eye, he offers a fresh perspective on what shapes a country’s visual soul. Kateřina Mikulcová, Petr Smělík, Czech Republic 2024, 85 mins UK PremiereThe film Identity: A Czech Graphic Design Love Story is part of the extensive Identity project, which pays tribute to Czech graphic design. The screening is an accompanying event to Identity - The Story of Czech Graphic Design exhibition at the Vitrínka Gallery and Bouda Gallery, Czech Centre London, running from 28 February till 30 June 2025.
