With his previous works, "Bibliomaniac" and "The Importance of Being Interested," Robin has captivated readers and gained popularity in our book shop. As a well-known Co-Presenter of the 'Infinite Monkey Cage' on BBC 4 alongside Professor Brian Cox, Robin has established himself as a prominent figure in the literary and entertainment world. We had the privilege of hosting Robin at our book shop in 2021 and earlier this year, where he delivered engaging talks and signed copies of his book as part of his Bibliomaniac book tour. We were even featured in his book! Robin Ince has been a strong supporter of independent bookshops, and we are excited to welcome him back. There, he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? The stage musical on Broadway and in the West End was produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also composed 14 new songs for the show, which additionally features all of the original songs from the movie. The composer’s numbers “You’re in the Band” and “Stick it to the Man” are well on their way to becoming rock solid standards, while the finale with “Teacher’s Pet” will bring audiences to their feet, night after night. Join us to learn the craft of seaweed pressing - a Victorian practice that captures the underwater beauty of seaweeds. You will create your own seaweed print and able to take this away with you after it has been pressed and dried During the workshop you will learn to recognise and identify local seaweed species. The cultural history of seaweeds will be discussed, as well it’s agricultural, scientific and ecological uses. You will learn how to forage, store and use this abundant resource. After laying out your designs they will be loaded into our seaweed press where they will dry over the next weeks. You will be able to collect the pieces from our studio at CAST in Helston at a later date or alternatively we can post them to you. Readers do not need paid tickets Event Highlights: Megan Chapman AKA MCMC Spoken is a lyrical rhyming wizard. Her unique rhythmic style, and cutting content offers a mesmerising performance. She will perform both solo, and at other times with a full live band behind her. Megan was a guest poet with live air play on radio 4, in which her creativity was shared. She performs throughout Cornwall, in venues such as The Eden Project, but has also performed in cities across the UK and internationally. Megan has featured at literature festivals, and also at live music festivals – such as: Glastonbury, Womad and Boardmasters. Most recently the band have warmed up the wonderful Dizraeli, and The Scribes. Her work has also been published on various platforms. “Megan Chapman’s poetry is heartfelt and rhythmic. Playful and political, her Art is in the right place.” Anna Murphy, Kneehigh. She has been commissioned recently, and is currently, 2025, working on a project with the Council at Tehidy Woods specific to young people in care. As part of the commission, she is creating a body of new work which is being published. She has been commissioned recently, and worked with the NHS, and Red Paddle Co to write individually commissioned pieces.
