You will cover the basics of pattern cutting and deconstructing a garment of your choice as well as cutting pattern pieces, pinning, tacking and finally sewing them together using a machine. You will also cover basic garment repair to help you keep your clothes in tip top condition! Suitable for beginners. We have 4 sewing machines available to use at Y Stiwdio but if you have your own we encourage you to bring it along so you can get use to using your own machine. Or something that you don’t want to get rid of but no longer wear? Learn an introduction to needle felting and how to apply it to mend/adorn a worn woolly item of clothing, or another wool thing. We will also talk about wet felting, but it will primarily be needle. You will get a chance to experiment with the techniques on a tester 2D piece, and then add a simple design to something you’ve brought in with you. It’s a slow, sustainable approach to looking after what we have and making the most of it, whilst adding a personal touch. You will go away with the knowledge and confidence to add designs to other pieces in future. This is tailored as a beginner friendly session, but those with some experience of felting are still very welcome. You can develop your skills further by trying it out on clothing if you haven’t before, maybe even testing out a bigger design. Please bring with you: Something woolly you would like to mend. You’re very welcome to bring in a few options, suggestions include: jumpers, cardigans, scarves. Focus on options with a tighter weave/knit, if it is too loose it is much harder to felt into. If you bring options, we can talk about what works differently for them. Perhaps have a think about designs you could add, within the time frame it'll be worth keeping it simple to begin with, but we’ll go through this in the workshop. The Soul Breaker 10 trail race. If exploring is in your nature, and you love running off road, then you will love these races. The Soul Breaker 10 has become a firm favourite amongst the local trail runners and with good reason, with a bit of everything imaginable, it's got something for everyone. Both routes are fully marked out with around 200 arrows across the course. The start is at Aspirations Outdoor Adventures at 1000 feet above sea level, after navigating a few farm fields, both routes drop down to the top of Cwmpengraig at a little over 200 feet before climbing a short way back up to Penboyr church at 550 feet to the first check point. This is the half way point for the 10km race which is an out and back. returning you straight back up that' long slog to the start for a total of 900 feet of ascent. For those taking on the 10 miler, after the first check point, head back with the 10km runners before taking a right turn 200 meters from the church, now the route gets even more exciting, dropping you down to 150 feet above sea level, and through the trails of 3 other villages. with climbs never reaching much higher than 400 feet, you would be forgiven for thinking this 4 mile loop doesn't produce many challenges, but with nearly 1000 feet of extra ascent to accumulate on top of the 10km route, these 'little' climbs are relentless and will definitely let your legs and lungs know they are working. With heavy legs you will get a brief rest bite at the second (and last) check point approximately 6 miles in. before tackling the final 'challenges' that will join you back onto the 10km route and back to the start for an impressive 1800+feet of ascent gained. Due to the nature of this event, we must insist that runners who are taking part wear appropriate trail shoes with adequate grip for steep and muddy terrain as well as fields and stoney tracks. ALL runners must fill out a disclaimer before the race starts, so please make sure to arrive in planty of time. Everyone taking part will be rewarded with a bespoke medal, our famously super tasty soup and cakes. And a welcome that will make you feel like your already a part of the family. The winning Male and Female in both distances will also receive an extra special prize, with any records being broken winning the runner a free entry into next years race! DOING OUR BIT- In order to reduce plastic waste, our checkpoints will be self service. Simply put, if you wish to have a drink you will need to bring a water container with you, either a water bottle or a folding cup, we will supply water in large containers that you can use, all snacks will be unwrapped and either be vegan or vegetarian friendly. Please make sure you do not litter..... ANYONE FOUND LITTERING WILL BE DISQUALIFIED Due to recent storm Damage we have lots of work to do before the route is safe and back open. Even then we will have had to modify the course slightly. This shouldn't effect the distance or elevation much. Saturday 5th April 10am - 3pm Learn how to use crochet to create a beautiful bag using scrap fabric with Carol Davies. We will supply you with a large crochet hook and scraps to get you started. This workshop is suitable for beginners and improvers. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided but please bring a packed lunch. You may want to bring along extra scrap fabric from home. Old duvet covers, sheets and t-shirts all work really well. You will learn how to cut them up during the workshop.
