Part 2 of 2 events
What are Waterloo Region and Wellington County doing?
Guelph will soon begin developing a
Green Development Standard (GDS)
that will create standards for new development applications in the city. These standards will include the energy transition, climate resilience, active transportation and other sustainable features into the planning approvals process. They also have the ability to raise the bar on new developments and help us get to our Net Zero and 100% Renewable Energy goals long before 2050.
eMERGE wants to help the community to be prepared for this critical next step in climate action.
Karen Chisholme from Wellington County and Natasha Ing from WR Community Energy are already working on a GDS for their respective communities. They'll share experience and how their process is progressing.
Pay what you can to help us cover the cost of the event space
Natasha Ing is the Community Energy Planner for
WR Community Energy
, a strategic partnership between the municipalities and utilities of Waterloo Region designed to coordinate the local, clean, and equitable energy transition. She is leading the work for the Waterloo Region High-Performance Development Standards (HPDS). Previously, she worked in land development consulting and obtained her Master of Engineering in Cities Engineering and Management from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Planning from the University of Waterloo.
Karen Chisholme has over 20 years’ experience working in the climate and conservation sector. Serving the County of Wellington as their Manager of Climate Change and Sustainability, Karen has established the climate change and sustainability office, gained Council support for the County’s first greenhouse gas reduction plan, and initiated several projects to support both community and corporate emissions reductions in the areas of fleet and transportation, new and existing buildings, and agriculture.

The Art of Letting Go - half day course | Avalokiteshvara Kadampa Buddhist Centre
May 3, 2025 (UTC-4)
Guelph
SATURDAY 3 MAY
THE ART OF LETTING GO - FINDING FREEDOM IN IMPERMANENCE
10AM -1PM
Buddha teaches that everything is in a perpetual state of change, never remaining the same, even for a moment. Gaining an understanding of impermanence profoundly impacts our minds, particularly regarding our problems and difficulties. When we understand that things do not exist as they appear but are in a state of constant change, we realize there is no need to cling to anything. This wisdom enables us to let go, leading us to experience true freedom.
In this half-day course, Gen Kunden will guide us through the teachings on impermanence. By developing deep insight on this simple yet profound truth, we will gain true inner freedom and experience the peace and happiness we wish for.
Each session will consist of short teachings, prayers, and meditations, with refreshments provided between sessions. Everyone is welcome, regardless of previous experience.
$25. Free for members

Reclaiming my SHYNE | Guelph Civic Museum
Jun 1, 2025 (UTC-4)
Guelph
This 2-hour workshop centers around the maxim that rest is an act of resistance, a radical form of self-care, and a powerful tool for Black, Indigenous, and women/femmes of colour to reclaim their lives from the constant pressure to perform and produce. Inspired by the work of Black feminist thinkers like Tricia Hersey, Audre Lorde, and bell hooks, we will explore the importance of rest, its connection to resistance, and practical ways to cultivate peace within our lives. This workshop will adopt an embodied approach, inviting participants to engage in this powerful discussion of rest and reclamation. Participants can expect to:
Engage in grounding, meditative exercises that encourage deep rest and self-reflection.
Explore the ways that hustle culture impacts their well-being and presents obstacles to rest.
Reflect on their own cultural practices that resist capitalism through rest, play, and community.
Develop practical tools to prioritize rest and ease in their daily lives.
This workshop is open to self-identified Black women/femmes, Indigenous women/femmes, and women/femmes of colour seeking to reclaim their sense of peace, balance, and self-care while actively resisting the destructive demands of capitalism and hustle culture. Participants are encouraged to bring their own "rest supports" to the workshop - this may include blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, slippers, or any other items that help them cultivate a sacred space during this rest practice.
About the facilitator:
