We also saw what was missing: a safe, child-led space for healing. So we’re creating one — rooted in love, creativity, and connection. Bebe’s Hive will offer free sessions using art, music, play, and storytelling to help children explore grief safely and gently. Led by a team of educators, creatives, and wellbeing practitioners - all who knew and loved Bebe. It will be a space full of care and hope. At its heart, Bebe’s Hive reflects who Bebe was: warm, inclusive, curious, and endlessly creative. Every part of what we’re building carries her kindness and her spark. We are still at the beginning — building the foundations, designing our sessions, and training our team. This page has been set up for those who’ve asked how they can support us or donate in Bebe’s name. We’re thankful to Elsie’s Story Charitable Trust, who are supporting us as we bring Bebe’s Hive to life. All donations made through this page are ringfenced for Bebe’s Hive, and will go directly towards helping us grow long-term — from training and safeguarding to creative resources and outreach. Ben Aaronovitch | Weston Central Library

Aug 9, 2025 (UTC+0)
Grove
Arts
Literary Arts
'This isn’t London. The rules are different up here…’ All Detective Sergeant Peter Grant wanted was a nice holiday up in Scotland. He’ll need one once this is over… Sea: check. Sand: some. Sun: sort of – but that’s not the only thing in the sky… Born and raised in London Ben Aaronovitch had the sort of unrelentingly uninteresting childhood that drives a person to drink or Science Fiction. The latter proved useful in his early career when he wrote for Doctor Who (before it was fashionable), Casualty and the cheapest soap opera ever made – Jupiter Moon. Alas his career floundered in the late 1990s and he was forced to go out and work for living. It was while running the Crime and Science Fiction sections at the Covent Garden branch of Waterstones that he conceived the notion of writing novels instead. Thus was the Rivers of London series born and when the first book proved to be a runaway success he waited all of five minutes to give up the day job and return to the bliss that is a full time writing career. He still lives in the city that he modestly calls ‘the capital of the world’ and says he will leave when they prise London from his cold dead fingers. He promises that he is already hard at work on the next Peter Grant novel and not computer games – honest. Tickets Tickets are free, but if you can donate something for your ticket we can continue to bring you exciting authors in the future. We suggest £5 per ticket but any donation amount is welcome. If you are not able to donate, free tickets are also available. About the venue Weston Library is located on the ground floor of the New Town Hall building. It has steps or a ramp with handrails to the main entrance. The entrance has two sets of automatic doors which are wide enough for all wheelchairs and mobility aids. Inside, the library has level access throughout. An accessible toilet is available. A hearing loop is available at the library help desk, as well as by request at the event. All staff are Dementia Friends trained, and the library is an autism-friendly space. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss other ways we can help you attend and enjoy the event. Getting here The library is served by a range of local buses, which stop in the Interchange, approximately 0.4 miles away. Weston Railway Station is located appoximately 0.3 miles away. Disabled car parking is available in the Carlton Street Car Park, BS23 1UA, approximately 0.1 miles away. Information Source: North Somerset Libraries | eventbrite

Come and join me for a full day of gelli printing – an easy and versatile monoprinting technique where the process is exciting, the results are quick and no two prints are the same. This workshop is for those who want to attend both the Transfers Half Day (morning workshop) and the Botanics Half Day (afternoon workshop) at a discounted price. During the morning workshop you will be taught gelli plate basics and learn how to transfer images and textures from magazines using a variety of gelli print techniques. In the afternoon we will take a short break for lunch, then I will reset for any newcomers and briefly go through the gelli plate basics again before showing you how to layer colour and texture using botanical material (pressed leaves) to produce interesting effects. You will come away with a variety of interesting prints to frame or use in your own work. I will be bringing loads of foliage with me for the Botanics workshop, but if you have some interesting plants in your garden you might want to bring some leaves with you to see how they print. If you do collect some, look for plants that can be pressed flatish on the plate and pop them in an airtight bag so they don't dry and curl up. Pressed leaves also work really well. I recommend you bring an apron with you as gelli printing can be messy and it’s almost impossible to remove dried acrylic paint from your clothes, all other materials and equipment are supplied. See you there! Information Source: Julia Harwood Art | eventbrite
