Whoof Kids Camp Week 1 2025 (June 23-27) | Whoof on the Wharf

Jun 23, 2025 (UTC-4)
Edgewater
Cultural Experiences
This is a summer day camp for kids ages 8-14 that takes place at Pier 7 Marina in Edgewater, MD. Pier 7 is a gated marina with multiple beaches at the intersection of the South River and Warehouse Creek. This camp will involve a combination of activities from kayaking, paddle boarding, arts and crafts, basic dog obedience skills, and learning about our local environment on the Chesapeake Bay. The paddling portion will begin with kids learning basic kayaking and paddle boarding skills. From there we will explore Warehouse Creek on kayaks and SUPs and do some fun activities like relay races and scavenger hunts. Because Whoof has a heart for dogs, we'll be teaching some basic dog obedience skills with some visiting pups. And weather permitting, we'll work in a family paddle one afternoon. Our arts and crafts program will involve various projects throughout the summer, including clay works, painting, group murals, crafting and more. We strive to do at least one different art project each week so that, if kids want to come more than one week, they will be doing something different each time. Best of all, Echoes of Nature will be back with new animal ambassadors this year, and Marvelous K9 Training will be back with their amazing pups to help teach the kids how to kayak with dogs!! Each camp runs for one week, Monday through Friday from 9-4. Regular drop off is between 8:30-9:00. Early drop-off (starting at 7:30) and late pickup (until 5:30) are available, and can be purchased on site in the clubhouse as needed ($10 each time), or bought in advance for the whole week at a 20% discount at the time of registration plus Eventbrite fees. Campers should know how to swim, and should bring their own lunch, water, snacks, sunscreen, bathing suit, hat, towel, water shoes and change of clothes. We offer a 10% discount for those who register multiple campers, or who register for multiple weeks. Contact us for details on how to obtain the discount! An additional early bird registration discount is in effect until the end of the day on March 31, 2024. Information Source: Whoof on the Wharf | eventbrite

Running
It's the 10th annual Kooteny Fun 5! Join us on Saturday May 3, 2025 for our community's well-loved 5 km walk/run at Kootenay Christian Academy! Last year's event was enormously successful with over 650 registrants! The TENTH annual KootenayFun5 in Cranbrook is sure to be another successful event. To celebrate 10 years, we are offering two athletic events! The Orignial Walk/Run - Sign up for all the fun and excitement you've come to expect from this great event, which includes event t-shirt, swag bag, and timing chip for the first 500 registrants! Our regular annual race features a scenic 5K, mainly flat and fast course. This is the perfect race for novice and experienced runners, joggers and walkers alike. Safe and friendly for kids of all ages, allowing everyone in the family to join in on the fun. After completing the race, all participants are invited to stay for the post-race festivities with bbq, award ceremony and much more. Or.... The Last Man Standing - choose to join us for a new challenge to celebrate 10 years! We are hosting an additional race only for those crazy enough to try! A backyard ultramarathon , known as Last Man Standing, will take place in addition to the regular Kootenay Fun 5 and will require the purchase of a seperate ticket, if you dare! Here's how it works: Runners who sign up for this backyard ultra need to complete an approximate six kilometre loop, with the same start and finish line as the KF5, but looping up into the community forest. This will happen every hour, on the hour - over and over until only one athlete remains! If you can finish the loop in under 60 minutes, you can choose to line up at the start line for another round! This is an event like none other in the running world! Why on earth would someone do something so crazy, you might ask? It's the challenge of reaching your own goal! Even though there is only one winner, all participants strive for their personal best, whether that's two loops, or ten! Be prepared to push against your limits and break through them! All Last Man Standing racers, except one, will receive a DNF mug (Did Not Finish), a trophy of sorts that symbolizes the overcoming of each one's physical and mental limits! The first 500 registrants receive a Kootenay Fun 5 t-shirt and swag bag. All participants receive a race bib with timing chip. Last Man Standing racers will receive all the perks of KF5 registrants like t-shirt and swag bag, plus a DNF mug (unless you're the last one!). The top three male and female runners in each age category will win a medal and the top overall male and female runners will receive a new pair of running shoes from Gerick Sports! SEN Seva is excited to announce the upcoming SEND Bhangra Fitness Class on 7th April 2024 in Cranbrook. Following the success of our previous event, we are thrilled to offer this fun and inclusive experience for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Families of SEND children are encouraged to join, with parent/carers required to accompany their children throughout the session. The event will take place at 40 Argyle Road, Cranbrook, IG1 3BG, providing a friendly and safe environment for participants to enjoy Bhangra fitness activities tailored to their needs. This is a fantastic opportunity for children and young people with SEN to engage in physical activity and have a great time. Ticket prices range from £3.96 to £6.13, ensuring accessibility for all. Don't miss out on this unique and enriching experience for your child on 7th April 2024.
