Susie McCabe: Best Behaviour WIP | Number 57 Pub Company

West
Arts
Comedy
Susie McCabe returns to Dundee and Number 57 with a work-in-progress version of her new show Best Behaviour ahead of its debut at the legendary King’s Theatre in Glasgow. Susie McCabe’s career has been so stratospheric in recent years, she’s indisputably one of the biggest acts working in Scottish comedy today. Having made multiple TV appearances including Have I Got News for You, Live At The Apollo, Frankie Boyle’s New World Order and Question Time, she’s also had a sell-out Edinburgh Fringe show and a triple-sell out run at the legendary King’s Theatre in Glasgow. Even with multiple Scottish Comedy Awards under her belt, she had to make room on her shelf for one more when in 2024 she was awarded the Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award, with the accolade presented by the Big Yin himself via video link. “I was blown sideways!” – Billy Connolly “A naturally funny storyteller and a genuine stand up. Highly recommended.” - Kevin Bridges “Susie is up there with the best.” - Fred MacAulay “Susie McCabe is damn funny.” - Stewart Francis “McCabe is hilariously down to earth and has a fantastically positive outlook. About as far down the opposite end of the spectrum from disappointing as you could get.” - Broadway Baby “The ever-reliable Susie McCabe delivers plenty of chuckles.” - The Scotsman “Prepare to laugh yourself silly.” - Three Weeks When: Friday 14th February EARLY SHOW: 7:15pm start (doors at 6:30pm), finishes by 8:45pm. Attendees need to leave the venue by 9:15pm. LATE SHOW: 9:45pm start (doors at 9:15pm), finishes by 11pm. No late admission. **PLEASE READ CAREFULLY** · Tickets can be refunded or exchanged no less than 24 hours before the show. · Line-ups can be subject to change at short notice. · The show is in two parts separated by an interval. Doors open at 6:30pm, 45 minutes before the start time of 7:15pm. Please arrive before the show starts but not before 6:30pm. Attendees who arrive late will not be granted admission or a refund. · All audience must vacate the venue within 30 minutes of the show finishing. Sorry to rush you, but we need to be able to prepare the room for the later show. · This is NOT a standing event. All audience members must be seated while the performance is underway, unless ordering at the bar or using the toilets. When ordering at the bar, please whisper. · Entrance and exit is via the side door only; please wait outside at the door for ticket check and to be seated by the doorman. · You will probably have to share a table. You may not be able to sit together if the remaining chairs available are spread out. If you are particular about seating we recommend arriving as early as possible. · Seats in the front half of the room must be filled before seating in the back half is allocated. · Seating in the alcove at the back is reserved for the comedians and their guests only. · Don’t talk or heckle during the performances. This rule is NOT optional. It is very distracting for both the performer and other audience members. Some performers (usually the host) might talk to the audience, but otherwise please let the comedians do the talking. Heckling does not ‘help the show’. Think of it like cinema rules: laughter, cheers, applause are all great, but talking or yelling out is not. And another cinema rule… · Please put your phone on silent. Photos are fine but please no video or flash photography. · If your chair is not facing the stage when you come in, please rotate it when the show starts. · These shows are for people aged 18 and over. Due to licencing 17 year olds can attend accompanied by a parent or guardian, but we cannot allow entry to those aged 16 and under, accompanied or not. You may be asked to show ID if you do not look of age. · Comedy Dundee does not necessarily agree or disagree with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by the comedians. Acts are booked based on their ability to make people laugh, beyond that we respect freedom of expression. If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance. · Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave. Information Source: Comedy Dundee | eventbrite

PULSE Book event with Silvia Lippi on The Decision of Desire | 321 W 44th St suite 510

How can we understand what unconsciously drives our actions? And how can we shift from a desire entangled in toxic symptoms and compulsive repetition to a conscious decision about our desires? The Decision of Desire is a bold reengagement with the notion of desire within psychoanalysis and the quandary of how to assume responsibility for desires. For if desire is always already that of the Other and unconscious, that is, a decision that escapes consciousness, how can we assume an ethical relation to it that avoids the vicious circle of disappointment, neurosis, and destruction? An interpretive tour de force drawing on Lacan's psychoanalytic insights through a cross-disciplinary lens, engaging with the works of writers, poets, artists, and philosophers such as Bataille, Breton, Bertolucci, and Spinoza, The Decision of Desire proposes that each of us can seek out and reimagine our relation to the infinite aporias of desire and thereby detach from its destructive, repetitive forms in favor of joy and affirmation. Bio Silvia Lippi is a psychoanalyst trained as a philosopher, she is a hospital psychologist at the Établissement Public de Santé Barthélémy Durand in Étampes, and a researcher associate at Université Paris-Nanterre. She is the author of Soeurs, Pour une psychanalyse féministe, Seuil, 2023 (with Patrice Maniglier), Rythme et mélancolie (Erès, 2019), Freud. La passione de l'ingovernabile (Feltrinelli, Milano, 2018), La décision du désir (Eres, 2013 Œdipe le Salon 2014 prize), Transgressions. Bataille, Lacan (Eres, 2008). She co-edited Marx, Lacan: l'acte révolutionnaire, l'acte analytique (Eres, 2013). Her works have been translated in Italian and English (The decision of desire, University of Minnesota Press, 2020). She has developed a psychoanalysis that is particularly attentive to psychotic experiences and the interpellations of contemporary minority groups. Information Source: Pulsion - IIPPP | eventbrite
