Celebrate World Poetry Day with a captivating poetry performance at Ashford Library. This special evening event will showcase the incredible talent of local poets from Kent, who will be sharing their original works with an intimate audience. Among the featured poets is Jessica Taggart Rose, a writer and editor with a profound fascination for human nature, the passage of time, and our connection with the natural world. Her poems have been published in esteemed anthologies such as "Letters to the Earth," "Storm Chasers," and "New Contexts," as well as in Confluence Magazine, Full House, and Three Drops from a Cauldron.
Another poet to grace the stage is Rosie Johnston, who has captivated audiences at various literary festivals across the country. She has performed at In-Words events in Greenwich, Winchester's Loose Muse, and the Linen Hall Library in Belfast, to name a few. Rosie's upcoming collection, "Safe Ground," is eagerly anticipated and is set to be released later this year or early 2025.
Maggie Harris, a renowned poet, prose writer, and memoirist, will also be sharing her beautiful verses. Born in Guyana, Maggie has called Kent home since 1972. Her remarkable talent has earned her numerous accolades, including Kent's Outstanding Adult Learner award, The Guyana Prize, the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, and The Wales Poetry Award. One of her poems, "Canterbury," is even displayed in the picturesque Westgate Garden of the city.
Lastly, Christopher Horton, a highly acclaimed poet, will be enchanting the audience with his words. Christopher has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the National Poetry Competition prize and the Bridport Prize. His pamphlet, "Perfect Timing," released in 2021 by Tall-Lighthouse Press, showcases his exceptional talent and poetic prowess.
