Our Summer Academy is five days of non-stop entertainment and learning that kids will love. This program includes all of the components that make up the great game of golf. From chipping, putting and full swing, to the rules and etiquette, kids will learn everything they need to know to improve their game. Each Academy is taught in a fun, relaxed atmosphere and is staffed with a low student-to-instructor ratio to ensure each Junior Golfer receives in-depth, hands-on attention while he or she develops a winning golf swing. About this event This event is a full day training course for those delivering the OPAL primary programme in their school. This training is well suited for play curricular leads, play coordinators, those responsible for risk management and members of the OPAL play team. This course provides participants with the most up to date theory and practice. As well as guidance and legislation on children’s play and risk management. The day will be centred around presentation, group discussion, case study activities and simulations. This event is facilitated by Ben Tawil, co-director of Ludicology and OPAL mentor. The course will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone involved, whilst supporting participants to better enable play and importantly children’s desire to play with elements of risk and uncertainty. During the day we will be hearing from expert playworkers. They will share their expertise in: How they support children's play in a dynamic environment, ensure the needs of all children are met, including those with SEND, and how they use their dynamic risk management skills to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of an adventure playground. Course outcomes Participants will leave this course with: A solid understanding of the features of play, the role that play serves in childhood and how to create the conditions to effectively support and encourage it, how to foster environments that promote quality opportunities for play and how to support the emotional, physical and social wellbeing of the children in their care. Furthermore, the participants will increase their confidence in the use of risk-benefit assessment (RBA) and dynamic risk-benefit assessment (DRBA) tools. This will enable them to make informed decisions that allow children to explore, take risks, and learn in a safe enough yet, challenging environment and to confidently develop, implement, and advocate for risk management policies and practices that balance safety with the benefits of play.
