Jun 19, 2025 (UTC+1)
Exeter
Tamsin Robertson, Early Years Lead Advisor for Quality and Outcomes with DCC will lead a session for Early Years teachers. These sessions will support the moderation of judgements against the Early Learning Goals for all areas of learning and development. There will be an overview of the EYFS Profile Handbook, discussion with colleagues and opportunities to ask questions and clarify expectations.
Teachers should come prepared to engage in professional dialogue around three focus children, but discussion will include other children as and when appropriate, particularly those that are borderline. There is no expectation for recorded evidence, however you are welcome to bring anything you may have (in whatever format) to share. Some evidence for writing would be useful to support discussion.

Speed Dating in Exeter for 20s & 30s | The Bootlegger
Jun 24, 2025 (UTC+1)
Exeter
How Speed Dating Works in Exeter
When you arrive at the Exeter venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date.
You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't.
At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day.
Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches.
Post Event
No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We guarantee you will find someone you will want to see again, otherwise we will give you your next

Gameplay
Rules & Errata - The campaign will be based on the www.broheim.net Core Rules and "the Ultimate Mordheim Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) & Errata" documents subject to these House Rules.
Optional Rules - All 'Optional Rules' are used, including 'Critical Hits', 'Escape From Combat', 'Misfires' etc.
Armour Piercing - Armour penetration start from attacks made with S5 instead of S4.
Scraped off the Cobblestones - If a model goes out of action from a fall caused by being knocked down or stunned, then the model who cause it is deemed to have taken them out of action (for XP purposes).
Windows & Ledges - You may shoot over a ledge or out of a window if you are within half an inch of the ledge/window. If you choose this, you are visible for return fire.
Weapons
Shields - Shields grant the user +1 to their save in hand-to-hand combat if carried in their free hand.
Ranged Weapons – No more than 50% (Rounding up) of your warband may be armed with a ranged weapon. This includes Hired Swords and Dramatis Personae .
Lucky Charm & Rabbit's Foot - Limited to one of each per warband, per mission (you can keep as many as you like in your 'Stored Equipment').
Spears - In the first round of combat, models with spears strike before any other weapons (including 'Strike First').
Price Changes - All 'Black Powder' weapons are 20% cheaper (rounding fractions up). Hammers, Maces and Clubs are increased from 3gc each to 6gc. Slings are increased from 2gc each to 6gc.
Dual Wielding - If a model is using two one handed weapons, 1 attack is made with a modifier of -1 to hit (users choice as to which but must be declared before rolling dice).
New Skill - 'Ambidextrous' is a new skill available to all Heroes. The skill will negate the effects of 'Duel Wielding'.
Warbands
They came from far and wide - Warbands can be chosen from the following tables on the Broheim warbands page ( https://broheim.net/warbands.html ): 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a & 2b.
Dramatis Personae - The following Dramatis Personae will be available: Aenur 'Sword of Twilight', Bertha Bestraufrung, Countess Marianna Chevaux, Johann 'The Knife', Nicodemus, Uli & Marquand, Veskit 'High Executioner of Clan Eshin'.
There can only be one - Once a warband successfully hires a Dramatis Personae, that character becomes unavailable to all other warbands. If the warband that hired the character cannot afford (or chooses remove the character from their roster) then the character becomes available for hire again, keeping any injuries previously rolled. If the character is killed, it turns out that they were in fact an imposter and the real character comes available to hire.
Eyes of Judgement - At the end of each game, please complete each of the 'Post Battle Sequence' steps with your opponent. If you need to roll for a new spell/prayer, please also do this in front of another player or organiser.

The project was recently showcased by the NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art & Design), and this will be an opportunity to learn in more detail about the experimental techniques and processes used in the creation of the final artworks. There will also be an opportunity to learn how your schools and students can take part in the next CODEX project.
Workshops
There will be a selection of practical and experimental art-based workshops during the day that will be suitable for all settings, phases, and experience levels. These workshops will introduce and challenge new practices and give you new skills to take back into the classroom and improve creative thinking for your students.

Plant Hunters and Pioneers: Veitch Family Nurseries of Exeter & Chelsea | Leonardo Hotel Exeter - Formerly Jurys Inn
Jul 10, 2025 (UTC+1)
Exeter
Caradoc Doy
travels widely to give interesting and entertaining gardening talks. He has also become a specialist studying the work of the
Veitch nurseries of Exeter and Chelsea
and their many pioneering plant collectors, as well as other horticultural stories.
This talk is a brief history of a remarkable nursery which sent twenty-three plant collectors to numerous countries, mainly during the Victorian period. William and Thomas Lobb, Richard Pearce, John Gould Veitch and Peter Veitch, Frederick Burbidge, Charles Maries, Ernest Wilson and others all worked for the Veitch family nurseries of Exeter and Chelsea.
The presentation highlights some of the well-known and interesting varieties introduced by these pioneering plant hunters who discovered many hundreds of new species. So successful were they that there is scarcely a garden in the British Isles that does not contain a plant derived from their introductions.
Our speaker,
Caradoc Doy
, is an experienced horticulturist and an authority on the history of plants introduced during the Victorian period.
