Outline of Sugar Cookie Class
If you're like me with severe social anxiety, I want to let you know what you can expect from a beginner class! My classes are based in Pittsburgh (both public and privately offered) and cater to the beginner cookier or those just looking to have fun learning a new skill.
For classes, all you will need to bring are yourselves (and aprons if you'd like), and I'll take care of the rest. If you'd like, it's not a bad idea to bring eyeglasses so you can see the instructional materials. You'll receive a set of pre-baked cookies (pretty tasty if I do say so myself) as well as all the supplies needed to decorate them. I'll be there to help you one-on-one with any questions or examples you might need.
Classes are an hour and a half, giving us enough time to decorate the cookies and answer questions along the way. You will leave the class with 6 freshly decorated cookies to share with family or friends or save just for yourself - that is, if they make it all the way home without being eaten!
I'm offering classes throughout the year in various locations which highlight different themes so make sure to sign up for my cookie email list (on micahmadecookies.com) or follow Micah Made Cookies on Eventbrite so you can stay in on the cookie action!
Health/General Cancellation Policy for In-Person
Classes
Note - classes do NOT currently require masks for vaccinated individuals. My classes follow the current recommendation by the state of PA and CDC.
You will not be required to wear a mask throughout the class; however, you can choose to wear a mask if you'd like! I provide hand sanitizer on each table, along with plenty of Clorox wipes upon request. I have little ones at home and am the first person to skip family functions (to this day) where more than 8 are gathered, but I can't make the same promise for everyone else in the room. Please keep this in mind when registering and consider this too if you're on the fence about mask-wearing. And if you want to wear a mask and don't want to be the only one, I'll gladly wear mine in solidarity with you, so just let me know beforehand! I'll make sure worksurfaces are disinfected before classes start.
Showing Symptoms Before 7 Days Out:
If you are sick prior to the 7-day refund cutoff, you can cancel for a full refund! And thank you for being honest and awesome.
Showing Symptoms After 7 Days Out:
For any sickness symptoms prior to your class’s start time but after the 7-day refund policy, please email me before your class’s start time, and I’ll give you a credit for the next class!
If you arrive at class with symptoms of COVID-19, I will ask that you leave class, but you'll be given a full credit towards a future class. Please just get well!
You Don't Show Up Or Email Prior To Class (Health-Related):
If I do not hear from you before your class’s start time, and you do not show up for class, I won’t be able to offer you a refund or a credit regardless of whether or not you're sick. So please reach out to me if you’re feeling sick before class starts!
Questions? Email Me!
I check emails as SOON as possible (but not on the weekend). Feel free to send me your questions or concerns and I'll address them as best as I can.
My email address is: hello@micahmadecookies.com.
Thank you for supporting my small and mom-owned business. It really is a JOY to get to combine my two favorite things - teaching and lots and lots of sugar!
FAQs
What will I be doing in class?
Besides having so much fun and learning something new, we'll go over some cookie facts, decorating techniques, and you'll create a set of cookies that you'll take home!
What should I bring to and from class?
Just bring yourselves, cute aprons if you'd like, your glasses, your phone, and masks (optional). You'll be taking home a set of a half dozen gorgeous cookies ready to dry for 24 hours in their own box. And of course you'll have everything provided for you during the lesson from decorating tools to Micah's tips and tricks. You'll also receive the electronic version of class materials used and a supply list with links after class ends.
What if I have allergies?
Eggs, gluten, and dairy are present in my inspected and licensed kitchen used to bake these cookies and icing. Nuts are never used, but I'm not a certified "nut-free" kitchen, so please use discretion. Dairy, gluten, and eggs are present in the cookies themselves so please consider any allergies before registering.
How do I register?
You're in the right place! Each person must register individually for this class, so if you'd like to attend as a group, please register around the same time so that you can all get a seat, or email Micah at hello@micahmadecookies.com for information on private classes.
How many people can come?
This class is limited to 20 seats per class so please sign up ASAP!
If you're coming with a group (or even one other person), please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes early to class to make sure you can all be seated together. Seating is first-come, first-served. Feel free to email Micah ahead of time if you have any questions.
Can I purchase an additional take-home cookie kit or tool kit?
Yes! Many past attendees or practicing cookiers have purchased additional class cookie kits (and/or tool kits) to take home and re-do the classes or just have fun icing things with other family members - especially around the holidays. You can purchase your kit(s) at registration and it'll be available for you at the end of class - so don't forget it! If you're skipping class and just ordering the kit, swing by any time during class to sneak in and pick it up - it'll be labeled with your name.
I signed up for a class but can't make it?!
I understand that life happens, so you can cancel up to 7 days before the class (for a refund). You can always transfer your spot to a friend (and what a nice friend you are)! Any cancelation after the 7-day window will be
a class credit only redeemable for up to one year from the credit issue date.
Please read below for COVID-19 cancellation policies.
Eventbrite Fees:
Your ticket price includes your Eventbrite fees; however, Eventbrite does NOT refund its fees. If you end up cancelling your ticket for a refund (before the 7-day window), you'll get the refund less the Eventbrite fee since MMC doesn't receive this back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel! :(

Join author
David Rieff
in conversation with Heyday’s publisher
Steve Wasserman
on Rieff’s latest book,
Desire and Fate
. Rieff has in recent years been one of America’s most courageous and outspoken critics of the pathologies of identity politics—in particular, its grossly simplistic understanding of what it means to belong to a culture or a community, its fundamental failure to grasp the real value of the creative arts, and its increasing disregard for due process and freedom of expression. In an age dominated by an insipid and unthinking moralism, Rieff’s book offers a bracing antidote, serving as a crucial record of and a fierce protest against these developments. Covering topics as diverse as censorship, the cultural ubiquity of the notion of trauma, and the future of democracy on a global level, Rieff’s
Desire and Fate
is characterized by an incisive intelligence and a refreshing lack of wishful thinking.
David Rieff
is a journalist, cultural critic, essayist, and policy analyst. Beginning in the 1990s, he has reported on wars and humanitarian crises from Bosnia through Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Libera, Israel-Palestine, and Iraq, and Afghanistan, to Ukraine today. He is the author of numerous books, including
Los Angeles: Capital of the Third World
,
Slaughterhouse: Bosnia and the Failure of the West
,
A Bed for the Night: Humanitarianism in Crisis
, and
The Reproach of Hunger: Food, Justice and Money in the 21st Century
. He has written on international migration, contemporary Latin America, and, most recently, on the uses and abuses of historical memory in his book
In Praise of Forgetting: Historical Memory and Its Ironies
