Ali Brady | Battle of the Bookstores | The King's English Bookshop

This event is free and open to the public but registration is required. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the event. You may also pre-order your signed copy of Battle of the Bookstores to be picked up at the event by either calling the store at 801-484-9100 or ordering online. Places in the signing line are reserved for those who purchase a copy from The King's English. About the Book Rivalry and romance spark when two bookstore managers who are opposites in every way find themselves competing for the same promotion. Despite managing bookstores on the same Boston street, Josie Klein and Ryan Lawson have never interacted much—Josie’s store focuses on serious literature, and Ryan’s sells romance only. But when the new owner of both stores decides to combine them, the two are thrust into direct competition. Only one manager will be left standing, decided by who turns the most profit over the summer. Efficient and detail-oriented Josie instantly clashes with easygoing and disorganized Ryan. Their competing events and contrasting styles lead to more than just frustration—the sparks between them might just set the whole store on fire. Their only solace during this chaos is the friendship they’ve each struck up with an anonymous friend in an online book forum. Little do they know they’re actually chatting with each other. As their rivalry heats up in real life, their online relationship grows, and when the walls between their stores come tumbling down, Josie and Ryan realize not all’s fair in love and war. And maybe, if they’re lucky, happily ever afters aren’t just for the books.

NSPIRE Specialist Seminar w/ACE Certification - Salt Lake City, UT | Salt Lake City Marriott University Park
Jun 26, 2025 (UTC-6)
Salt Lake City
NSPIRE Standards and Protocols Training
Whether you're managing a HUD or LIHTC property — or any of the many voucher programs — NSPIRE will be the universal inspection standard. US Housing Consultants is offering the first-of-its-kind comprehensive NSPIRE certification course for all funding programs and applications. And we will do it all in a single-day course. USHC offers you a thorough analysis of every NSPIRE standard and how to recognize deficiencies, conduct inspections, and understand the operational implications of the change from HQS and UPCS to NSPIRE.
Serious Changes Require Serious Curriculum
NSPIRE’s requirements for components will align with International Building Code (IBC), International Code Council (ICC), and UFAS/ADA Accessibility Requirements, as well as fire and life safety standards. The ACE Certification course addresses the basis for NSPIRE standards while conveying what the complete requirements are rather than simply glossing over the bare minimum standards. Without a complete deep-dive, properties could make changes to that meet NSPIRE standards but end up creating fair housing violations. The NSPIRE ACE Certification seminar provides a full understanding of all standards that is both comprehensive and clear to all.
NSPIRE Means Housing Compliance
The new physical inspection requirements are more than just a checklist. They're a new way of thinking that everyone from executives to property managers, professional inspectors, and maintenance professionals need to understand. Those accustomed to conducting HQS and UPCS Inspections must understand the step-by-step requirements of what makes something a deficiency. They also need to know how to properly test the components. In short, everyone from the boardroom to the boiler room needs to thoroughly understand all NSPIRE standards.
What Does the NSPIRE Course Include?
US Housing Consultants will explain NSPIRE policies and procedures (broken down by funding program), the score on the REAC scoring process, and an in-depth analysis of each NSPIRE standard. In this 6-hour course, we explain standards and deficiencies, show detailed examples, and describe the step-by-step requirements for each component required to be inspected under NSPIRE. All attendees will receive a hard-copy, coil-bound reference manual.
What is the NSPIRE Accredited Compliance Expert (A.C.E.) Designation?
For individuals interested in acquiring the NSPIRE A.C.E. designation, there is an optional online exam available for purchase. Earning the A.C.E. designation signifies a proven comprehension of the updated inspection protocol.

About the Book Dear Reader, have you ever wondered what happened after Pemberley? Playing Miss Bennet by Rebecca Anderson Twenty-year-old Kitty Bennet, visiting London for a season as a companion to Mrs. Gordon, is simultaneously attracted and repelled by a flirty rake. How would a girl like Kitty respond to his roughish behavior? Impossible to tell when she doesn't even understand herself. She must use their time together to practice being someone else. She's sure when she decides which of her sisters' personalities is the best fit, she'll know both who she is and what she wants. Of course, what she wants couldn't possibly be Augustus Haverford. Not with that wicked smile and that tendency to say scandalous things. Can Kitty convince herself he's all wrong for her? Or does fate have something altogether more romantic in mind? Sisters and Second Chances by Samantha Hastings Sixteen years since her own elopement, widow Lydia Wickham saves a young woman from running away with a scoundrel. In gratitude the father, Viscount Kingston, offers Lydia a position as chaperone. Childless and estranged from her sisters, Lydia eagerly accepts. Little did Lord Kingston or his daughter the honorable Chloe know how Lydia would shake up their dull, scholarly existence and turn their trio into a family. The Colonel's Conviction by Sarah L. McConkie Shrouded by his military facade and careful in love as the younger son of an Earl, Colonel Fitzwilliam has yet to find his soul-mate. When he's tasked to watch over Georgiana Darcy and her new companion—a striking young widow named Clara—he's instantly drawn in, even if he did make a muck of their first meeting. But Clara has a difficult past and a complicated future, and it will be up to the Colonel to show her that no matter how insurmountable the obstacles, hearts can open...if she's willing to take a chance on him.

About the Book #1 New York Times bestselling novelist Maggie Stiefvater dazzles in this mesmerizing portrait of an irresistible heroine, an unlikely romance, and a hotel—and a world—in peril.
January 1942. The Avallon Hotel & Spa has always offered elegant luxury in the wilds of West Virginia, its mountain sweetwater washing away all of high society’s troubles.
Local girl-turned-general manager June Porter Hudson has guided the Avallon skillfully through the first pangs of war. The Gilfoyles, the hotel’s aristocratic owners, have trained her well. But when the family heir makes a secret deal with the State Department to fill the hotel with captured Axis diplomats, June must persuade her staff—many of whom have sons and husbands heading to the front lines—to offer luxury to Nazis. With a smile.
Meanwhile FBI Agent Tucker Minnick, whose coal tattoo hints at an Appalachian past, presses his ears to the hotel’s walls, listening for the diplomats’ secrets. He has one of his own, which is how he knows that June’s balancing act can have dangerous consequences: the sweetwater beneath the hotel can threaten as well as heal.
June has never met a guest she couldn’t delight, but the diplomats are different. Without firing a single shot, they have brought the war directly to her. As clashing loyalties crack the Avallon’s polished veneer, June must calculate the true cost of luxury.

📚 First access to Atmosphere (plus limited signed copies!)
💫 Spacey photo booth for your astronaut alter ego
🎶 A galaxy-inspired playlist & starry surprises Plus, games, trivia, crafts and glitter temporary tattoos! This is a ticketed event and includes a copy of Atmosphere. About the book: Joan Goodwin has been obsessed with the stars for as long as she can remember. Thoughtful and reserved, Joan is content with her life as a professor of physics and astronomy at Rice University and as aunt to her precocious niece, Frances. That is, until she comes across an advertisement seeking the first women scientists to join NASA’s space shuttle program. Suddenly, Joan burns to be one of the few people to go to space.
Selected from a pool of thousands of applicants in the summer of 1980, Joan begins training at Houston’s Johnson Space Center, alongside an exceptional group of fellow candidates: Top Gun pilot Hank Redmond and scientist John Griffin, who are kind and easygoing even when the stakes are highest; mission specialist Lydia Danes, who has worked too hard to play nice; warmhearted Donna Fitzgerald, who is navigating her own secrets; and Vanessa Ford, the magnetic and mysterious aeronautical engineer, who can fix any engine and fly any plane.
As the new astronauts become unlikely friends and prepare for their first flights, Joan finds a passion and a love she never imagined. In this new light, Joan begins to question everything she thinks she knows about her place in the observable universe.
Then, in December of 1984, on mission STS-LR9, it all changes in an instant.
Fast-paced, thrilling, and emotional, Atmosphere is Taylor Jenkins Reid at her best: transporting readers to iconic times and places, creating complex protagonists, and telling a passionate and soaring story about the transformative power of love—this time among the stars.

About The Ghostkeeper
Dorian Leith is a therapist for ghosts. He listens to their problems and tries to help them move on to the afterlife. It’s a gift that’s made him an outcast to everyone in town. That is except for his dearly departed grandmother, who he’s partnered with to turn this paranormal ability into an honest living, and the local bookshop owner, who seems to be the only non-deceased person willing to give him a chance. But it’s all worth it to Dorian, who feels like he’s been given a bigger purpose. A chance to save those who cannot save themselves. Then one day, the key to Death’s Door is stolen, trapping all the ghosts in the land of the living. Since he’s the only one who can see them, the spirits rely on Dorian to retrieve the key before it is too late. If they can’t move on, they’ll soon be consumed by a ghostly rot that has begun to plague them. As it continues to fester and spread, and the ghosts become desperate for relief, Dorian must do whatever it takes to find a way to bring peace to the restless dead—even if that peace comes at the cost of his own…
