Exeter Life Drawing offers an engaging and accessible pay-as-you-go life drawing class. Participants can immerse themselves in a relaxed and untutored session, perfect for all skill levels. The two-hour class takes place in person, allowing attendees to draw from a model. With a brief 10-minute break in the middle, this class provides ample time for creativity and exploration. Poses vary in duration, ranging from quick 30-second sketches to longer 45-minute sessions. Each week, a new model takes the stage, ensuring a fresh and dynamic experience. Located on the top floor of the Cygnet Theatre, at Friars' Gate in Exeter, this venue offers convenient access to the Quayside, just a 5-minute walk from our previous location. Parking is available on the street after 6pm, and nearby carparks at Magdalen Road or the Cathedral & Quay multi-story. The class takes place every other Thursday from 7-9pm, so arrive promptly at 6.55pm to settle in and get ready to draw. All you need to bring is a sketchbook or paper, along with your preferred drawing materials. Easels are welcome, and we kindly ask that you use dry materials to avoid any mess. This Winter term, the focus will be on site-specific work, with sessions occasionally taking place outdoors, weather permitting. Workshop One - Art in the Age of AI Generation is an upcoming event taking place in Exeter at the Innovation Centre on November 24, 2023. This workshop will provide a unique opportunity for artists and scientists to explore the creative possibilities of AI image generation and painting in response to their scientific research questions. The day will start with a coffee and pastries session from 10 to 10.30 am, courtesy of CDT in Environmental Intelligence. During the workshop, there will be a short presentation showcasing examples of artists and scientists who have utilized image generation tools to enhance their visual research and public-facing work. This will be followed by a group discussion on the role of image generation in the realm of art and what defines an artist. Renowned contemporary artist, Theo Ellison, will deliver an online presentation from 11.30 am to 12 pm. Following that, participants will engage in a practical workshop from 12 to 1 pm, where they will use tools like Mid-Journey and Dali to generate a series of AI-generated images based on their scientific and artistic research. These images will be further developed through drawing, painting, and collage. After a lunch break, courtesy of CDT in Environmental Intelligence, the workshop will continue with another practical session from 1.30 to 3 pm. Participants will once again work together using AI image generation tools to create unique artworks. At 3 pm, there will be a group critique and discussion to reflect on all the works created throughout the day.
