darach9 Movement Masterclass with Dr Philip Johnston | Lyric Theatre Belfast
Dec 21, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Ridgeway
Join us for the darach9 Movement Masterclass with Dr Philip Johnston This in-person masterclass at the Lyric Theatre Belfast is a unique opportunity for professional actors and dancers to explore the intricacies of movement as performance with renowed expert Dr Philip Johnston. Physical movement is the main building block for both actors and dancers although both may approach it from very different view points. An action is the physical pursuance of a specific goal that relates to an actor or dancer. The way you move, or speak, is finding the truth of the moment on stage. After an initial warm-up we will work with improvisational scores to develop short movement sequences. We will steer a path away from habitual patterns of movement to explore new and interesting journeys of expression. Dr. Philip Johnston trained in dance with Helen Lewis in Belfast before embarking on his professional studies at the London School of Contemporary Dance. His performance career took him across the globe. Philip was the Artistic Director of the Norwegian Modern Dance Company in Oslo. After relocating to the United States he taught in academe as an Associate Professor in Dance and Theatre. His Doctoral studies were in Theatre History and his MFA in Dance at the University of Illinois. Philip is also a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique having studied with Joan and Alex Murray in the United States. He studied T’ai Chi with Gerda Geddes at The London School of Contemporary Dance and is a life-long practitioner and teacher of T’ai Chi. Supported by Creative Catalyst, Innovate UK
