The team was known for its high-scoring offense, led by quarterback Reggie Collier, who was named USFL Rookie of the Year in 1984. In their two seasons of existence, the Showboats made two playoff appearances and had notable players such as wide receiver Greg Moser and defensive end Reggie White, who was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
