HEALTH & SAFETY: WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE WEAR A FACE MASK WHILE INDOORS FOR OUR EVENTS. THANK YOU. While it would be so interesting and fun to be the child of the wildly famous and groundbreaking author and literary lion, Erica Jong, it presented some painfully difficult challenges to Molly Jong-Fast, Erica's daughter. Jong-Fast has her family's great creative DNA, being a brilliant writer herself, who is now focusing on political writing and podcasting. But her new book, How to Lose Your Mother, is deeply and utterly personal. It is impossible to put down. Molly Jong-Fast reveals the struggle with her internationally renowned mother's dementia, while dealing with her own husband's cancer diagnosis at the same time. How can this be funny and unique? Trust us. Jong-Fast knows how to tell a tough story with searing honesty and stunning humor , weaving in the complications and struggles of being Erica Jong's daughter. The ravages of memory loss and ageing are cruel facts of life. But in Molly Jong-Fast's hands, they're something new altogether. In conversation with comedy queen Lisa Kudrow. You know the award-winning Lisa Kudrow from her ten-year run as Phoebe Buffay on the seminal sitcom Friends, for which she won Emmys and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has appeared on countless major comedies, including Mad About You; Grace & Frankie; and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. She is also part of the team behind the critically acclaimed series, Web Therapy, as well as The Comeback, among so many other shows. Limited parking onsite. We recommend rideshares and carpooling. Please allow time to find parking. Did you know that you can make a fully tax-deductible donation? As a nonprofit organization, Writers Bloc Presents relies on support from people like you.

NU Oakland Belonging and Wellness Gatherings presents...Wellness Drum Circle with the Wakan Wiya Community Drum Weds June 25 @ 4-5 PM; Reinhardt Alumnae House, Northeastern UniversityFor our next NU Oakland Belonging and Wellness Gatherings, we will circle up in the good company of the Wakan Wiya Community Drum. This special circle for Northeastern staff and faculty is open to all, and offers us an opportunity to gather as community so we might care for ourselves and honor the visions we have for our future. Wakan Wiya is open to all peoples, all tribes, all nations. We believe coming together builds not only community, but builds a world from the words, prayers, intentions that we share on behalf of ourselves, our families and our communities. Here is where we can tend to our gardens together by putting our intentions down on the drum. Drumkeeper Zamora will guide us in putting your tobacco prayers down, and setting in motion what we see for ourselves down this road we construct, we vision. In this way we move medicine for and with each other. We build and strengthen our circles here in the Bay. This is the time we make for ourselves to dream and vision our wellness, all under these skies here in Huichiun, land of the Confederated Villages of the Lisjan Ohlone. Healing Drum Circles with the Wakan Wiya Two Spirit Drum and drumkeeper Zamora are a chance to tap into collective healing/prayer/ meditation work through the heartbeat. NU Oakland Belonging and Wellness Gatherings are a series of meetings cosponsored by Mills College at Northeastern University for all Oakland Campus faculty and staff. Bios below... About Wakan Wiya Two Spirit Drum Circles:The Wakan Wiya Drum is held by Two Spirit IndigeQueer community in the Bay Area, and is open to all. Sit with us at the drum, or circle up and let the heartbeat medicine help you lay down tobacco prayers/intentions for the future. This is the manda for our drum, to bring drum medicine to the people. We will take turns sitting at the drum and learning more about how the drum helps us Hold the Form for each other. We will share palabra and songs, all these forms of heartspeak (cuicatl, as our Mexica maestras remind us!). In these ways we honor cultura Indigena in collective practice and give expression to our prayers, give thanks for the ways in which our full selves can and do make our way in this world. *Wakan Wiya (Sacred Woman) Two Spirit Drumis a Native American healing drum. Our drum was gifted by Elders to our community when it was retired from Lakota family Two Spirit ceremony. Zamora was asked to lead as drumkeeper to support access to drum medicine for our Two Spirit peoples, our friends and familia. We work toward the return of women and IndigeQueer folx to our Native drum traditions where healing medicine is for all. Our circles always center Indigequeer QTBIPOC peoples, and we ask everyone who attends to respectful of this focus. Wakan Wiya is the drum in residence atXochicalli-House of Flowers: IndigeQueer Medicine & Healing. If you have questions or would like to invite the drum to your community or organization, please contact us at xochicalli.indigequeermedicine@gmail.com. *Drumkeeper M. Zamora is a Chicana, Tongva and Yaqui IndigeQueer feminist educator and community organizer. Their ancestors come from the Los Angeles Basin and northern Mexico’s Sonora and Chihuahua regions. They have served as ceremonial singer/drumkeeper in their Two Spirit community for over 19 years. Zamora has led several drums, including Turtle Women Rising, and served as Song Carrier for the BAAITS Drum. Zamora has taught Ethnic Studies, Chicana/o Latina/o Studies, and Gender Studies and Feminist Theory at California State University East Bay, University of San Francisco and Stanford University. Zamora is currently produces and cultural and educational programming at the Office of the Dean at Mills College, Northeastern University. They will begin teaching in Spring 2025 at College of San Mateo in QTBIPOC curriculum with an emphasis on Chicana-Indigena perspectives and Indigenous activism in ecological and cultural sustainability.
