May 4, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Downtown Jersey City
When arriving to Grace Van Vorst Chruch, please use the 2nd Street entrance. The doors will open at 3pm. The forum will start at 3:30pm sharp.
The Embankment Preservation Coalition and the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy have created this opportunity for the 2025 mayoral candidates to publicly express their vision for our City as we grapple locally with human-caused climate change, the legacy of industrialization, and the effects of current rapid redevelopment on historic resources and local character.
Six Jersey City residents have publicly declared their intention to run for mayor in the November 2025 election. They are Mussab Ali, Flash Gordon, Jim McGreevey, Bill O’Dea, James Solomon, and Joyce Watterman. Of these, the first five have accepted our invitation to participate in this forum.
A question-and-answer session with the candidates will be moderated by Margaret Schmidt, former editor of the Jersey Journal. An opportunity for social interaction with the candidates will follow the in-person meeting.
The Q&A session will be recorded and the recording made accessible to the public.
The Embankment Preservation Coalition and the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy are nonprofit charitable organizations and do not endorse candidates for public office.

The Beloved Son: A Play Inspired by the Life of Henri Nouwen | Newport Minster
May 18, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Newport
Wayfarer Productions presents
The Beloved Son
Inspired by the life of Henri Nouwen, a new play by Murray Watts (creator of the acclaimed
Mr Darwin’s Tree
and
Fire from Heaven
).
Henri Nouwen (1932-1996) was a Dutch Catholic priest, psychologist and professor who reached the heights of academic success at Yale and Harvard, before abandoning everything to join the community of
L’Arche Daybreak
in Toronto. He became part of a life-sharing movement, seeking to make known the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities, exploring their unique talents and creating a welcoming home of friendship and belonging.
To some, Henri Nouwen put his brilliant career into reverse, risking the loss of reputation, to others his life was a prophetic challenge to church and society.
The Beloved Son
is a moving solo performance exploring hope and longing, family dynamics, sexual and emotional crisis and the profound insights of a man who became one of the greatest spiritual writers of the Twentieth Century.
“This is a compelling portrait of a human in all his fulness, grappling with the difficulties of life and his Christian faith, but ultimately coming to the sure and deep knowledge that he is the beloved son of his father, God. It is a play that explores faith, uncertainty, celibacy, relationships, forgiveness and acceptance. Andrew Harrison gives a tour-de-force performance. On an empty stage with no props or costume changes, he brings together multiple characters without missing a beat.”
Daniel Carlson, RADIUS Christian drama magazine
Tickets include refreshments.

Print Collage Workshop with Emily Cooper Creations
Come join us for a bird collage workshop at Roebling Books and Coffee! Emily Cooper is leading a workshop where you can learn to collage a bird print template, buy a coffee or tea (and maybe a book), and meet some new friends on a spring afternoon. This event promises a cozy atmosphere with plenty of creativity and community spirit. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn something new and possibly gain a new hobby. Hurry - spots are limited!
What can you expect at this workshop?
Everyone will be supplied with a selection of book pages, origami sheets, and necessary supplies for collaging. Emily will explain the steps of the process to everyone and then walk around and give one-on-one instruction as needed. There will be two bird prints to choose from, as pictured below.
Picking which parts of book pages and designs to paste onto the template is enjoyable, and it will be fun to see all the unique and creative results at the end of the workshop!
Please note that all participants must sign a liability waiver at the beginning of class. Scissors will be used during this workshop, and accidents can happen. By signing the waiver you agree to not hold Emily Cooper Creations, LLC and/or Roebling Books and Coffee liable for any damages or injury.
