NextUp’s Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) class is an immersive two-day learning experience that provides students with a deep dive into Agile principles and the concepts and practices that define the Scrum framework. This highly interactive and collaborative class boosts students’ confidence in Agile concepts and their ability to implement Scrum in their unique environments.
What You’ll Learn
Organized by a product backlog and completed through four half-day sprints, we use Scrum to teach Scrum in our CSM course. Sprint planning is used to identify the sprint goals and key learning modules for each sprint. The task board and burndown charts are used to create transparency and track progress to completion. Sprint reviews and retrospectives ensure students are engaged. Key topics include:
Agile and Scrum fundamentals
Iterative vs. incremental processes
Scrum roles and how they interact within teams
How to act as a servant leader and improve transparency
Product backlog, refinement, and user stories
Sprint planning and effective estimation
The importance of events like the daily Scrum, sprint review, and retrospectives
Certification
Students who complete the class will be eligible to take the Scrum Alliance-administered Certified ScrumMaster exam and become Certified ScrumMasters. The exam comprises 50 multiple choice questions; students need a minimum score of 74% to pass. NextUp students boast a 99% pass rate on their first exam attempt.

The Navy League Building is located two blocks from the Court House metro station on the Orange and Silver lines. Self-paid parking is also available nearby. Coffee, tea, and water will be available throughout both days of training.
About Your Trainer
Richard Cheng
is a graduate of Virginia Tech and a renowned Agile expert. He has presented keynote talks at conferences and events around the globe and has authored publications on Agile and product management. Richard has extensive experience working with the federal government, large companies, small startups, nonprofit organizations, and associations. In addition to being one of the few Certified Scrum Trainers (CST) accredited by the Scrum Alliance, Richard is also a Kanban University Accredited Kanban Trainer (AKT), Certified Scrum Foundations Educator, Path to Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) Educator, Certified LeSS Practitioner, Project Management Professional (PMP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), and a Training from the Back of the Room certified instructor.
Cancellation Policy
Students submitting cancellation requests 10 business days or more prior to the start of the course are entitled to a full refund. Students submitting cancellation requests less than 10 business days prior to the start of the course will be offered a credit toward a future NextUp Solutions course of equivalent value, or a refund less a processing fee of $100. Should the organizer cancel the course for any reason, each registered student will be issued a full refund.

REGISTRATION
Registration is from 3PM-5PM. You'll receive your wristband and swags. If you can't make it by 5pm have a friend present your ticket and pick everything up for you.
TICKETS
You MUST print a copy of your ticket or have with you or on your phone. Tickets are transferable and not refundable. You can give your ticket to a friend to use if you cannot attend the event.
ROUTE
You’re able to go to any of the participating bars at your leisure after you register! A map will be sent to all participants the day of the event.
DRESS CODE :
Dress up in your best beach outfits or sundresses.
ID
Government issued ID is required! It will be checked at every participating bar that you choose to go to. All participants must be 21 years old or older.

REFUND & TICKET RESELL POLICY
All sales are final. We only refund the full amount, if the event is canceled. If it is rescheduled, we will send an email to ticket holders advising that. A full refund will be given to those that let us know within 2 calendar days of the update email, if you are unable to make it on the new date. No refunds will be given after that time.
However, you can sell your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend. Please, feel free to post in the comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale. Work out payment between yourselves, and have the seller only send the organizer a message letting us know the full name of the person taking your spot. You must let us know two hours before the RSVP close time, on the day of the event.
