Join the SVBC STAY Basic Bike Maintenance workshop at Sports Basement Redwood City to learn the fundamental skills of bike repair. This in-person workshop, sponsored by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, will cover the essentials of bike maintenance: Air, Brakes, and Chain/Cassette. Participants will gain hands-on experience and knowledge to ensure their bikes are safe to ride. The 2.5 hour class is open to individuals aged 10 and above, with students aged 10-13 requiring adult supervision. Teens aged 14+ can attend independently. Bringing your own bike is encouraged, as you will have the opportunity to learn and work on it during the workshop.
Throughout the class, you will learn how to fix a flat tire, determine the correct tire pressure, and remove and attach wheels. Additionally, you will gain the skills to diagnose and adjust your brakes, as well as make necessary adjustments to your chain and cassette for a smooth and quiet ride. Time permitting, the instructor may cover additional topics related to bike maintenance.
The workshop will take place at Sports Basement Redwood City, located at 202 Walnut St, Redwood City, CA 94063. The event is free of charge, thanks to funding from MTC STAY and the partnership with Sports Basement. However, please note that each participant's attendance incurs a cost of approximately $150, so if you are unable to attend, kindly inform us in advance to allow others to join. As an added benefit, attendees will receive a discount on select bike tools and accessories at Sports Basement – 10% off for non-Basementeer members and 20% off for Basementeer members.
