Explore the history of Palestinian dress and the ancient practice of elaborate hand-embroidery.Tatreez is an ancient practice of elaborate hand-embroidery, and each region of Palestine has its own distinct and identifiable style making embroidery a language as much as a craft. For centuries, a Palestinian woman’s dress – its cut, colour, textiles, stitches and motifs – reflected her life story. Written into garments are the signs of youth or grief, the marks of motherhood and rural life, as well as the traces of social, political and economic change in Palestine, from the late nineteenth century to the present.

L’École du soir Cinéma #3 is an event taking place in Dundee at the Cooper Gallery. This event, inspired by Ousmane Sembène’s concept of cinema as a "night school" or l’école du soir, aims to provide a platform for collective study. Over four evenings, the gallery will be transformed into a temporary cinema, showcasing moving image works by The Otolith Group. The highlight of the event is the screening of In the Year of the Quiet Sun, a 33-minute and 57-second HD video. This thought-provoking film explores the decrease in solar surface temperature that occurs every eleven years and the first scientific expedition to study the sun. The screening will be followed by an artist response and an opportunity to view the exhibition. Doors open at 5.45pm and close at 8pm. The event is free to attend, but donations to medical Aid for Palestinians are encouraged. In addition to the film screening, there will be audio readings from The Otolith Group and responses from invited artists and writers in Scotland. This event is part of The Ignorant Art School Sit-in Curriculum #3. For those planning to attend, the Cooper Gallery is accessible, with ramped access to the first floor and a lift for wheelchair access to the second floor. Large print versions of the exhibition information handout are also available upon request. For further information and support, please contact exhibitions@dundee.ac.uk.
