Join the Hunterian Art Gallery in Glasgow for an exclusive after-hours event, The Pulse of the Earth: The Book Launch. Renowned author Adam Bobbette will be presenting his latest work, "The Pulse of the Earth," which explores the emergence of modern theories of the earth from the slopes of Indonesia's volcanoes. Bobbette takes us on a fascinating journey, beginning in the late nineteenth century, where scientists were faced with the challenge of protecting the colonial plantation economy from the unpredictable forces of volcanoes. Drawing on Javanese knowledge traditions, colonial geologists, volcanologists, mystics, Theosophists, orientalists, and revolutionaries, the book reveals how the earth sciences are the result of a fusion between Western and non-Western cosmology, theology, anthropology, and geology. In an engaging conversation, Bobbette will be joined by Zeynep Oguz, a Lecturer in Anthropology of Development at the University of Edinburgh, and Glasgow-based artist Ilana Halperin. This is a unique opportunity to delve into the evolution of planetary thought and reevaluate the politics of geological knowledge. Adam Bobbette, Lecturer in Political Geology at the University of Glasgow, School of Geographical and Earth Sciences, is the author of several acclaimed books, including "Political Geology: Active Stratigraphies and the Making of Life" and "New Earth Histories." Eden, who starred in Kötting's acclaimed British road movie Gallivant, plays a central role in the project. The film Gallivant has been praised as one of the greatest achievements in human creativity, reminding us that remarkable artists are still amongst us today. Andrew Kötting has established himself as an eminent figure in various art forms, including sound art, installations, avant-garde theatre, short films, artists' books, and full-length features. His unique and unclassifiable style has drawn comparisons to influential English dissidents like Derek Jarman and Peter Greenaway. Kötting's ability to merge the poetic intensity of Brakhage with the comical essence of Benny Hill is unparalleled. The exhibition will present a survey of the found objects in Kötting's mountain retreat, showcasing the sacred and the surreal. This event is part of the 'Thinking Culture' program, supported by the School of Culture & Creative Arts, and in collaboration with the Advanced Research Centre. The Tell Tale Rooms exhibition will take place on December 5, 2023, at the Kelvin Hall Lecture Theatre in Glasgow. Admission is free.

OUTFOXED: Animal Tales and Animal Agency is an artist book launch and exhibition featuring the new and recent work of illustrator Rebecca Guthrie. The focus of this exhibition is the exploration of the power of animals to act for themselves, as inspired by German fairy tales and French fables. Additionally, there will be a storytelling hour with a professional storyteller, a book launch and artist talk by Rebecca Guthrie, and a talk and roundtable discussion with Animal Studies scholar Erica Fudge and media artist duo Hörner Antlfinger. The book launch and exhibition opening will take place on December 7th, from 7pm to 8:30pm, at the Goethe-Institut Glasgow.
