The Skating merit badge is a rare and exciting opportunity for Scouts BSA and Venturers to explore the world of ice skating, roller skating, and in-line skating. In 2018, only 1,898 Scouts in the entire USA earned this badge, making it a highly coveted accomplishment. By 2022, Skating was ranked 124 out of 138 merit badges earned, highlighting its uniqueness. Scouts BSA who wish to earn the Skating merit badge can join #LoneScoutJason, a member of the #DragonautsCrew333 and #SSSPhoenixDragon333, for a special workshop. The workshop will take place on March 3, 2024, at the LA Kings Ice rink, where the Los Angeles Kings hockey team practices. This is a fantastic opportunity to skate in the same facility as professional athletes. The requirements for the Skating merit badge include demonstrating knowledge of safety and courtesy rules for ice skating, understanding the different types of ice skates and how to care for them, and mastering various skating techniques such as gliding, backward skating, and performing crossovers. There are three options to earn this badge: Ice Skating, Roller Skating, or In-Line Skating. #LoneScoutJason has chosen Ice Skating as his preference. Please note that this workshop is not designed to teach beginners how to skate. Participants should already be comfortable on ice skates and capable of skating around the rink without assistance. If you are new to ice skating, it is recommended to take lessons before attending the workshop.
