The UC San Diego Center for Hellenic Studies is proud to present the Annual Ranglas Lecture: The Blues of Achilles: Homer’s Iliad in Performance. This captivating event features The Blues of Achilles, a 17-song musical adaptation of Homer's epic tale. The production skillfully combines elements of classical literature and contemporary war themes to convey the grief, horror, and love experienced by iconic characters such as Achilles, Patroklus, Priam, Chryseis, Briseis, Andromache, and more. Chicago-based singer/songwriter Joe Goodkin, with his extensive expertise in music and a Classics BA from UW-Madison, will take the stage as the guest speaker. Mr. Goodkin has performed his own song retellings of the Odyssey and Iliad over 450 times across all 50 US states and Europe. This event will be held on January 24, 2024, at Scholars Drive North in San Diego, California. Admission is free, making it an opportunity not to be missed.
