The APF Intro to Powerlifting Meet is a sanctioned event specifically designed for new or novice powerlifters. Taking place on November 18, 2023, at Lombard Strength & Fitness in Lombard, IL, this meet is perfect for aspiring or current powerlifters who have completed two or fewer sanctioned meets. Led by world-champion powerlifters and APF/WPC sanctioned powerlifting referees, participants will gain valuable knowledge on competing in a powerlifting competition. The event will cover important logistics such as weigh-ins, flight scheduling, warm-ups, and attempt selection. Additionally, participants will learn the rules, commands, and technique of the squat, bench press, and deadlift in a straightforward manner. This fully sanctioned powerlifting meet, organized by Stacy Hawkins, requires all participants to become APF members prior to weigh-ins and wear a one-piece lifting suit for all lifts. Optional training camps will also be held on November 4 and November 11, where participants can learn the basics of the squat, bench press, and deadlift, as well as how to use competition equipment. Registration fees range from $85 for the meet to $200 for both the training camp and meet, with optional event t-shirts available for an additional $20.
