Art Forum with Ari Melenciano is an upcoming event that explores various themes in the artist's works. This program, which is part of the Department of Art and Design's Art Forum speaker series, will feature Melenciano discussing topics such as computational anthropology, AI, and cultural memory behavior. The event will take place at the George Segal Gallery in Montclair on October 12, 2023. As an artist, technologist, researcher, and cultural theorist, Melenciano's art and research practice delves into the societal subconscious intellect, the morphing of artistic and psychological expression across diasporas, and the formation and embodiment of mythology and rituals. She currently teaches courses on emerging technologies surrounding A.I., art, design, and theory at New York University and is the founder of Afrotectopia, a cultural institution focused on new media art, design, science, and technology through a Black and Afrocentric lens. In addition to her teaching and research, Melenciano guest lectures at universities worldwide. The Backend, an exhibition featuring works by 13 contemporary artists including Melenciano, will also be on view at the George Segal Gallery during this time. This group exhibition explores the protocols and agreements that shape our society and our participation within it.
