Join the forthcoming event, "Basketball and Brotherhood: Breaking Barriers," where University of Louisville basketball legends who made waves both on and off the court will engage in a compelling discussion about their experiences. Organized by Kentucky to the World (KTW), this live program will take place on September 27, 2023, at the esteemed Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. As part of the Republic Bank Foundation Speaker Series, this event aims to shed light on the groundbreaking era of desegregation through the perspectives of former UofL athletes who paved the way for athletes of color. Delving into their personal struggles and triumphs, the program will illuminate how these experiences shaped their lives. Among the distinguished guests, former players Wade Houston and Eddie Whitehead, who broke the basketball color barrier at UofL in 1962, will share their insights. Adding to the panel, Valerie Combs, UofL's Director of Development for Diversity and Engagement and the first Black woman to sign a letter of intent for a basketball scholarship at UofL, along with Judge Derwin Webb, an accomplished UofL basketball team captain who subsequently became Kentucky's first male African-American Family Court Judge, will contribute their perspectives to this thought-provoking evening. Mark your calendars and secure your tickets starting August 4, 2023, at 10:00 AM for a remarkable event that explores the legacy of these basketball pioneers.
