The Neighborhood Planting Program is a community-led tree giveaway program in support of the City of Toronto’s goal of reaching a 40% tree canopy cover by 2050.
The Neighborhood Planting Program offers residents anywhere in Toronto a free native tree that will contribute to the tree canopy in Toronto. The Neighborhood Planting Program and the Bayview Village Association will work together to ensure that you receive a tree that is best suited for your desired planting space, provide a workshop on proper tree planting and tree care, and provide handy reference materials to care for your tree.
You must be a resident of Toronto
 (id will be checked). Multiple registrations from the same address and/or more than 3 trees total will be cancelled.
About the trees
The City of Toronto and Connon Nurseries provide all trees. Our trees are native to Toronto’s seed zone (34) and are suited for our urban environment.
Trees come in 1-2 gallon buckets and are small enough to carry on TTC or sit in the back of a car.
Please note species of the trees/shrubs are subject to availability.
Residents will be
 limited to three trees (total) per address

Silver Maple: grows to 50+ft Hx30+ft W
Swamp White Oak : grows to 50+ft Hx50+ft W
White Pine: grows to 50+ft Hx20+ft W
Basswood: grows to 60+ft Hx30+ft W
Hackberry: grows to 40+ft Hx40+ft W
Small Tree/Large Shrubs:
Serviceberry: grows to 10-20ft Hx 10-20ft W
Alternate-Leaf Dogwood: grows to 15-25ft Hx20-30ft W
Chokecherry: grows to 8-25ft H x 8-15ft W
Large Shrubs:
Common Elderberry: grows to 10ft Hx10ft W
Nannyberry: grows to 15-20ft H x 10-15ft W
Medium Shrubs:
Spicebush: grows to 6-12ft H x 6-12ft W
Small Shrubs:
Fragrant Sumac: grows to 2-5ft Hx5-10ft W
