Dr. Giovanni Ercolani from the University of Murcia in Spain, alongside Prof. Chris Farrands from Nottingham Trent University, explores the profound impact of the so-called Revolution of Dignity–Maidan Events that occurred in Ukraine from November 21, 2013, to February 23, 2014. Specifically, the book focuses on the mission of the Maidan Museum in Kyiv, Ukraine, which emerged from the aftermath of Euromaidan. Its objective is to safeguard the essence of Maidan, serving as a testament to the events that unfolded during this critical period of Ukrainian history.

The Maidan events triggered a paradigm shift in the consciousness of demonstrators, giving rise to a new post-colonial discourse language, an apolitical ideology rooted in dignity and Ukrainianness. These events also facilitated the birth of symbols, social myths, and a collective imaginary, ultimately fostering the "Spirit of Maidan." Artists played a pivotal role in shaping the post-Maidan Ukrainian identity (homo Maidan) by consolidating key elements and empowering the movement with concrete ideas. Moreover, they recontextualized existing Ukrainian objects, symbols, and music, imbuing them with new meanings and sacralizing their significance.

To create this comprehensive volume, numerous interviews were conducted with artists who actively participated in the Maidan events. Additionally, extensive fieldwork was carried out at the Maidan Museum. Through these endeavors, the book identifies the primary elements, emotions, expectations, and motivations underpinning the relationship between art creation and the formation of Ukrainian post-Maidan identity, all rooted in the "Spirit of Maidan."
