Join the Charcoal at Scale - Industrial Landscapes workshop in Stockport on February 13, 2024. This workshop will focus on the creation of expressive industrial landscapes using charcoal and other related media, providing participants with the opportunity to explore working at a larger scale. The experienced artist will demonstrate the use of various materials including charcoal sticks, blocks, and home-made pieces, as well as liquid pencil, graphite, graphite powder, pencil, and Conte crayon. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reference photo of an industrial scene or landscape that they would like to work from. While black and white photos are preferred for tonal focus, color photos can be translated into monotone on the page if desired. Participants should also bring any charcoal they have, along with a decent soft eraser and their preferred drawing board. Paper size is flexible, with A2 recommended. Water-based media such as acrylic, gouache, or watercolor can be used for small washes to enhance the drawings. The workshop aims to challenge attendees to create expressive images inspired by real places and to explore the potential of charcoal as a versatile medium. Tickets are available for £12 per person, and the session will take place at the Stockport Meeting House on Cooper Street. Free parking is available, and tea/coffee will be provided.
