Join us for an engaging discussion exploring how science and art collide in BioArt Transformations. BioArt Transformations - Art Science Discussion and Drinks Reception Join us in person for an engaging evening where art meets science ! BioArtist Anna Dumitriu and her collaborator, microbiologist Dr Jane Freeman, will discuss the BioArt Transformations exhibition, their work, and key issues that affect us all. Art and science combine in “BioArt Transformations”, a cutting-edge new exhibition by internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Anna Dumitriu. A pioneer of the BioArt movement, Dumitriu works with living bacteria, DNA, and technology to create intricate sculptures, installations and textile works that draw threads across time from the history of science and medicine to cutting-edge research in synthetic biology, genomics and AI. Her strange and affecting objects take the form of relics of Dumitriu’s sublime laboratory-based processes created in contemporary biotechnological research settings, interwoven with historic stories of contagion and alchemy. The event takes place in the enigmatic Basement Annexe space of the Regency Town House, 13 Brunswick Square, Hove, BN3 1EH. This buys a block of three classes to help adults learn to ride a bike or ride on the road. Brighton Bike Hub is running three two-hour long cycle training sessions where you'll be supported by Bikeability trained cycling instructors to get more comfortable riding a bike. This £30 ticket is for all three lessons (£5 an hour), not just the date listed on Eventbrite. Purchasing a ticket gives you a space at three lessons - 10:30am-12:30pm on Sunday 10th, Sunday 17th and Sunday 24th May. You will also be emailed to confirm this. The cost of these sessions has been subsidised with funding from Sport England - the value of them without this would be £35-50 per session. If you cannot afford the £10 per session cost then please get in touch with us as we will provide a small number of free places for those that really need them. Whether you have never ridden a bike before or want to gain confidence riding on the road, these sessions are open for all skill-levels. When you buy a place you will be contacted to confirm what level you are so we can adapt the course to your needs - either practising in an off-road or on-road environment. We strongly encourage you to try and make all three sessions (10, 17, 24 May) to get the most out of the training. A lot of progress can be made in one session, but going to all three will sustain the skills you gain. We are also running a separate block of Wednesday evening sessions, which you can find on our eventbrite page: brightonbikehub.eventbrite.com We will be running these blocks of sessions every month, so you can also buy the block for the next month if you want to continue your training. All Sunday sessions will take place from 10:30am-12:30pm, meeting at the south-east corner of Preston Park velodrome, where 'The Sussex Peasant' pin is on google maps. Here to relieve you of your Sunday Assembly withdrawal symptoms is the fabulous Danni Emery of Insecurity Guards @insecurityguards, a global collective of performers who help people let loose without worry; patrolling festival crowds and help people get past their, well, insecurities! We also have the most excellent performer Gracie @bassiegracie sharing some most excellent storytelling poetry with us. This month we're raising money* for Impact Initiatives who work throughout Sussex providing activities, support and information for both children, and older adults, promoting safety, skill building & wellbeing.
