The Cultural Exchange Rate event is set to make its New York City premiere at The Invisible Dog Art Center. Presented by the Fisher Center at Bard and the Under the Radar Festival, this interactive live art project by Tania El Khoury delves into the hidden boundaries that exist in our daily lives. Drawing from her family memoirs, El Khoury shares the experiences of life in a border village between Lebanon and Syria, marked by war survival and an unconventional approach to currency collection. The artist's recorded interviews with her late grandmother, oral histories from her village, and the discovery of lost relatives in Mexico City all contribute to the exploration of over a century of border crossings. Visitors to the event are invited to immerse themselves in the sensory realms of sound, images, and textures found within one family's secret boxes. The production design by Petra Abousleiman, along with contributions from a team of researchers, sound designers, and video editors, ensures an immersive and captivating experience. Cultural Exchange Rate is a co-commission by the Fisher Center, Spielart Munich, and Onassis Stegi Athens, and was originally premiered at the Fisher Center's 2019 LAB Biennial.
