Defensive Carry 1.0 is a highly recommended firearms course that equips students with the necessary skills and mindset to confidently handle a handgun in potentially violent situations. Designed for individuals with some experience operating a handgun, this course covers both open and concealed carry techniques from outside the waistband. 

The course kicks off with an engaging classroom session, followed by active drills on the range. Students will learn the importance of shot placement on potential threats, as well as techniques like fighting magazine reloads and tactical reloads. Multiple target shooting exercises will enhance muzzle discipline and trigger reset skills. Additionally, movement while shooting will be introduced.

Topics covered in the course include the Use of Force, Grip, Stance, Draw, Reset, and Shot Placement. Students are required to bring their own firearm, as well as a quality holster, belt, and magazine carriers mounted on the belt. A minimum of 3 speed loaders or magazines is recommended.

To ensure safety and effective communication during the course, ANSI eye protection and digital ear protection are mandatory. Students should also come prepared with a cleaning and clearing kit, as well as field repair parts.

The Defensive Carry 1.0 course will be held on December 16th, 2023, at the Northern Chester County Sportsmen's Club in Elverson, PA. The ticket price for this event is $95. Please be aware that home-built firearms, such as "Polymer 80" pistols and "80" lower rifles or pistols without a serial number, are not permitted in the course due to their unreliable nature. Additionally, appendix carry is not allowed in Defensive Carry 1.0 unless prior permission is granted.

Ensure you have a minimum of 125 rounds of FMJ ammo for the class, with no steel cases, hand loads, incendiary or tracer rounds. Ammo will be inspected before the class begins.
