The West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA) will be hosting their quarterly "Lunch with Art" event on Monday, February 12, 2024, from noon till 1 p.m. This public event will take place at the Community Room located in the West Plains Public Library at 750 West Broadway, West Plains. The WPCA, along with its Arts Alliance members, will provide information about upcoming arts activities. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to learn from local artist Tara Shahan as she demonstrates the technique for creating hand-painted alcohol-ink ornaments. These unique ornaments are created using multiple colors, shades, saturations, and metallics to achieve effects such as marbling, melting, crackling, pitting, and swirls. The ornaments measure approximately 3 inches in diameter. Tara Shahan, who has a background in arts and crafts, will also share her experiences and showcase her work. Through her workshops, Tara has been teaching various art forms in the local area for the past 5 years. The lunch will begin with discussions led by WPCA board members, who will provide updates on current plans and programs available through Arts Alliance partners. They will also seek input on future arts endeavors for the area. This event is open to both WPCA members and non-members, with a cost of $10 for members and $15 for non-members. As attendance is limited, it is recommended to reserve a spot early.
