On September 30, 2023, the Historical Society of Rockland County and the Rockland Center for the Arts will host a film screening and panel discussion event titled "Film Screening and Panel Discussion: The Murals (Henry Varnum Poor)" to commemorate the birthday of Rockland artist Henry Varnum Poor. The event will take place at the HSRC Community Room, located at 20 Zukor Road, New City. The film being screened is entitled "The Murals" and is directed by TG Jamroz. It is a documentary that explores the New Deal-era Uptown Post Office Murals in Chicago, focusing on how and why they were created by Henry Varnum Poor, their depiction of Carl Sandburg and Louis Sullivan, and their continued inspiration in contemporary times. The screenings will be held at 2:00 pm at the HSRC Community Room and at 7:00 pm at RoCA, followed by a panel discussion with TG Jamroz. Admission is free, but reservations are required due to limited space. Donations are appreciated.
