His earlier works focused on the human face, but he has since expanded to creating entire settings, bringing them to life with the inclusion of trees and lights. When depicting Baltimore, West incorporates a blue light and features the distinct pointed top homes that line North Ave and Reservoir Hill, symbolizing the essence of his city. Butterflies, symbolizing hope, often grace his works.

Stylistically, West's powerful and dramatic settings feature jet black figures, which pay homage to ancient African art and challenge misconceptions associated with blackface. Through his art, West reclaims and reimagines ancient African characters, honoring ancestral African heritage and crafting new narratives. He refers to this process as Afro-reverence, aiming to elevate the meaning and significance of blackness. Black, for West, represents power and luxury, and he harnesses this symbolism by painting jet black people.

Mark West is an accomplished Assemblage Artist, muralist, and historian based in Baltimore and Rio de Janeiro. He discovered his passion for painting after graduating from New York University Shanghai and has since dedicated himself to producing art and curating experiences. His work has been showcased at various prestigious venues, including Refocused Space, Cotyledon Art, and the Hall of Fame. Mark West's talent has garnered attention from ABC News, BronxNet TV, and Bleucalf Magazine, among others.
