Con’tylia and Scylla will bring the vibrant sounds of Greece and Southern Italy to Edinburgh, celebrating the timeless rhythms and melodies of their homelands.
Scylla (/ˈsɪlə/) will ignite the night, with the vibrant sounds of Southern Italian folk music. Their performance will captivate the audience, blending rhythmic percussion, expressive melodies, and the rich storytelling traditions of South of Italy musical heritage. You will expect a rich array of harmonies, from traditional love songs to the frantic rhythm of the pizzica.
Following them, Con’tylia, a group renowned for their deep passion for Greek folk music, will transport audiences with their soulful renditions of traditional tunes. Con’tylia delves into the rich traditions of Eastern European and Middle Eastern folk music. Rooted in Greece, their sound is deeply influenced by Northern Greek, Balkan, Rebetiko, and Maqam cultures, blending vibrant jazz-infused harmonies, soulful string arrangements, and infectious rhythms. The quartet wields an eclectic array of instruments, including the Cretan lute, Turkish oud, bendir, guitar, djembe, and castanets, occasionally incorporating the bouzouki and low whistle for added depth.
Leith Depot, one of Edinburgh’s most beloved independent music venues, provides the perfect setting for this intimate and immersive musical experience.
