Two divorced best friends, inspired by the 1986 hit sitcom “Kate and Allie” move their families in together to solve the problems of single motherhood. The eldest daughter tells their decades long story. Summer 1986, Long Island, New York - THE hit American sitcom, “Kate and Allie” is on the TV.  Grace and Dorothy, two recently divorced best friends, see their own lives reflected back at them on the screen. Kate and Allie, also recently divorced best friends, have the brilliant idea of combining their households and solving all the problems of single motherhood. They turn to each other and ask, “Why don’t we do that?”  Within months they move their 4 kids (ages 5 – 12) into one house, and change the trajectory of their families’ lives forever. Told from the perspective of the eldest daughter Kate, the play weaves through decades of adventures, joys, and challenges of growing up in a non-traditional family.  Thirty-Five years later Grace tells Kate, for the first time, what really happened in the summer of ’86.  Kate, Allie and the ‘86 Mets  premiered to a sold-out audience in November 2024 in New York as part of Frigid NYC’s Storytelling Festival. Kate is an Emmy-nominated producer, executive, writer and series creator. She has produced hundreds of hours of film and television for Netflix, HBO, Apple, Hulu, Disney, Nat Geo, Amazon including #1 series and films on Netflix and Hulu and Sunday night premiers on HBO.Her films have premiered at festivals around the world, including Sundance, Tribeca and Toronto among others. Kate is currently living and working in Dublin and NYC. This is her first play. ,
