Join the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society as we board the tall ship 
Oliver Hazard Perry
 in Newport and sail, like the British did in 1775 and again in 1778, into Bristol harbor.
Launched in 2015, Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. The ship is named after 
Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry
, native son of Rhode Island and the hero of the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. The ship is 200 ft long, 131 feet high and has a draft of 13 feet, with an average speed under sail of 7.5 kts. Aboard the ship, you'll learn about how its 3 masts, 7 miles of rigging, and 14,000 square feet of sail work together to make ocean travel possible.
Bus transportation from Bristol to Newport will be provided, along with light refreshments on the ship. Join the Welcome Reception, which will begin as the ship docks at the Herreshoff Marine Museum, for an additional discounted ticket price of $25.
As part of the Brits Attack Bristol (and lose!) celebration, 8th graders in the Bristol-Warren Regional School District will have the opportunity to participate in The Oliver Hazard Perry's 
Perry Corps Program
, a school-day program that prepares students to be members of the 21st century workforce. The program will take place while underway and consists of a mix of standards-based, industry curriculum, industry exposure, and hands on skills application. Please consider sponsoring a student at $50 for this one-of-a-kind learning opportunity.
